[There have been many times in Jamie's life where he's not understood what's going on, usually when there's a name or a word or an idea that's far past his time. Usually he figures out some way to get through, either by questions or by pretending he has a clue. It's worked well enough for him before.
Today, however, it's more difficult to do that, thanks to the very large blank in his memory. It would possibly be frustrating if he wasn't still somewhat disorientated by what had happened, but mostly right now he feels strange, in a bit of a daze that makes thinking difficult. In an effort to try and clear the fog around his head, he starts to wander the Plane with no clear destination in mind. Eventually, he finds himself over by the forest, with a strong urge to sit which he doesn't bother to try and fight, instead settling under a large tree and unwrapping a bundle that he's been carrying with him. In the bundle is a broken hunting knife, which he stares down at like he's expecting it to give him some answers. It doesn't really seem to be cooperating, though, and after a moment he sighs, shaking his head even as he continues to look at the object in his hand.]
Och, I wish I knew what was going on.

Jamie? You all right?
no subject
Hey? Oh...ah. I'm fine.
[This is not clearly not true, and even as he says it, he suspects she might call him on it.]

[He's not about to turn down the water, and he accepts the glass gratefully, taking a sizeable drink from it before saying anything else. But when he does, it's with a slightly troubled expression on his face.]
I'm afraid I don't rightly remember, other than the fact I'd woken up with this broken knife next to me. It's not my knife, though, I know that much.
no subject
And is there anything else you remember?

… Hey! ( she decides to speak up after a moment, stuffing her palms into her back pockets as she walks ) What's up?
( well, it would be awkward to just shout out “gods, don't do it!” )

The strange lass probably wouldn't have made too much difference there normally, but the question is phrased in a way that it more than confuses him, and he winds up staring at her blankly more a moment or three.]
Er, I'm not sure what ye mean. Isn't up just a direction?
no subject
It's slang, I guess. Like, I mean, um … how's it? Or … what's going on? ( there! hopefully that helped him some )
no subject
[And he does, because that it actually was quite helpful - at least as far as his figuring out what that sort of phrase actually meant. Unfortunately, his being able to actually tell her what's going on is, well...a bit more tricky, and he gives her a slightly rueful look.]
I wish I had an answer for ye, but right now I'm not so sure about any of that myself.

Sorry, that should've been 'it was here'. /rolls with it

But the progression to it in itself had been... special. A little on the confusing side. Still, seeing as it's more favourable than what he'd thought would happen, he can't complain.
He hasn't really been back to the Plane since that first trip for that reason. But it's hardly going to get less interesting if he stays, and there is exploring to be done. So eventually he does go, and finds the very confused Jamie after only a few mere minutes.
And that knife is certainly not one he's seen in Jamie's hand before, so he gestures at it. ]
What's that?
no subject
And when he looks up with what he thinks is alacrity but is, in fact, a much slower reaction, it's entirely possible to notice that something is definitely off.]
Doctor? You're here?
[He seems a bit confused for a moment before letting his eyes drop back to the knife.]
Er...it's a knife, I suppose. Not sure whose it is, though.
no subject
But he doesn't outright ask; just frowns, studies Jamie for a moment and goes for a less direct approach. ]
Where did you find it?
no subject
Next to me on the table where I'd woken up.

[he settles down nearby, glancing down at the knife for a moment before looking at Jamie's face.] What do you remember?
no subject
What do ye mean, what do I remember? And what are people wondering? What's going on?
no subject
Ah… a few people have been waking up lately, and not quite remembering what happened before they were… out, so to speak, so I wondered… But if it's something else bothering you, that's all right. But I suppose it means we have another mystery on our hands.

[He scratches at his ear for a moment, considering, then gives the other man a slightly sheepish look.]
Ah, well, if ye must know, I did just have that problem myself. Ye said other people were having it too?

After some time he hears a quiet voice, and changes his path through the forest slightly to see who it was.
He couldn't exactly say that he was expecting anything in particular, but a man in a kilt holding a broken knife is certainly a bit of a surprise. The man's dazed look helps assure Canada that he is probably not an immediate threat, despite the knife, but he does wonder what is going on. It would have taken quite something to break a knife like that.
Purposefully making some noise as he comes closer, he holds up a hand in greeting.]
Hello.
no subject
Hey?
[It smooths out almost immediately, however, save for his eyebrows, which stay faintly furrowed even when he gives the other man a more normal sort of greeting.]
Oh. Hello. Sorry, I'd not realized I had company.
no subject
[He comes closer, keeping an eye on the man's reactions. He'd almost say that he was as surprised as he was to find him in the forest like this.
Crouching down across from him he smiles kindly and reaches out his hand for a handshake. The young man would have stretch a little bit to reach his hand.]
I'm Canada. Nice to meet you.
no subject
[His brow furrows at the name because, well, even he's heard of Canada, but who would name their child after a country? But after a moment he does stretch to shake the other man's hand, something he's able to do easily enough. Whatever's wrong with him, he doesn't actually appear to be injured.]
Canada, ye said? I'm Jamie. That's a bit of an unusual name, isn't it?

[It might sound a little strange, almost a little slurred around the edges, but it matches the slightly woozy expression on his face - and it takes him a minute before he's able to fight through that wooziness to actually answer the question.]
I...I don't know.

It's not mine, see?
[Turning his jacket back, he shows Oliver his dirk, still firmly in its usual place, then lets it fall back into place.]
I...I found it next to me when I woke up on the table.
