[There have been many times in Jamie's life where he's not understood what's going on, usually when there's a name or a word or an idea that's far past his time. Usually he figures out some way to get through, either by questions or by pretending he has a clue. It's worked well enough for him before.
Today, however, it's more difficult to do that, thanks to the very large blank in his memory. It would possibly be frustrating if he wasn't still somewhat disorientated by what had happened, but mostly right now he feels strange, in a bit of a daze that makes thinking difficult. In an effort to try and clear the fog around his head, he starts to wander the Plane with no clear destination in mind. Eventually, he finds himself over by the forest, with a strong urge to sit which he doesn't bother to try and fight, instead settling under a large tree and unwrapping a bundle that he's been carrying with him. In the bundle is a broken hunting knife, which he stares down at like he's expecting it to give him some answers. It doesn't really seem to be cooperating, though, and after a moment he sighs, shaking his head even as he continues to look at the object in his hand.]
Och, I wish I knew what was going on.

[He comes closer, keeping an eye on the man's reactions. He'd almost say that he was as surprised as he was to find him in the forest like this.
Crouching down across from him he smiles kindly and reaches out his hand for a handshake. The young man would have stretch a little bit to reach his hand.]
I'm Canada. Nice to meet you.
no subject
[His brow furrows at the name because, well, even he's heard of Canada, but who would name their child after a country? But after a moment he does stretch to shake the other man's hand, something he's able to do easily enough. Whatever's wrong with him, he doesn't actually appear to be injured.]
Canada, ye said? I'm Jamie. That's a bit of an unusual name, isn't it?
no subject
It is a unique name in my world, you could say. [There is only one Canada, after all.]
It's nice to meet you, Jamie. If I may hazard a guess, barring if you are from another world, are you from Scotland?
no subject
[That's all he needs in order to accept the strange name, really. The man's from another world and he's seen enough of those by now that it even makes sense to him.]
Aye, well, most of us are all from different worlds here, if ye want to look at it that way. But, aye, I'm from Scotland. The Highlands, specifically. I take it you've heard of there, then.
no subject
[He chuckles softly.] Yes, more than heard of it, actually. I've visited there. I have something of an uncle in Scotland.
no subject
Oh! Aye, it's a grand place. What did ye think of it?
no subject
[Canada grins a little. Scotland is a hot-headed and slightly crazy guy, but rather affectionate and loyal in just the right amounts for an uncle.]
It is indeed grand. I particularly like the natural beauty of the landscape. I've enjoyed my visits there very much.
no subject
[Which is true, but there's something a little wistful that creeps into his expression all the same.]
Don't get back there as much as I like nowadays, but...och, listen to me. Look, I don't want to talk your ear off about it. Would ye mind giving me a hand up, though? Least I can do is talk with ye while standing up.
no subject
But certainly. Here. [He stands and offers his hand to help Jamie to his feet.]
Not that I mind sitting in the grass. But if I may ask, what were you doing sitting out here with a knife like that? [He nods in the direction of the broken knife.]
no subject
[He takes the hand gratefully, because even if he doesn't want to admit it, he's still more than a bit wobbly. And that oh-so-casual leaning against the tree afterward has more than one reason behind it - like allowing him to take another look at the knife while trying not to fall over.]
Trying to figure out where it came from, mostly. I'd woken up with it next to me earlier on.
no subject
So you don't remember what broke it then, eh?
no subject
Well, someone brought that in from their world, I think, but that's true. And I've no idea what broke it, only that I'd woken up with it next to me. Maybe it's...och, I don't know, some sort of clue.

It sounds like there is something quite strange going on, certainly. But if you wouldn't mind, could you start from the start for me? I am quite new here, but perhaps a new perspective on your situation will shed light on something previously unnoticed.
no subject
[He's not entirely sure that's what Canada meant, anyway.]
Or did ye want me to go back to what happened just before I wound up here today?
no subject
Unless there is some distant context that would be useful, just about today would be fine, thank you.
no subject
Right, let's see. We were traveling in the TARDIS, and it was going to be awhile before we landed, so I'd thought I'd come check up on Troub..er, my ferret. And I remember walking over to where I've gotten his cage set up and...and...
[He frowns faintly as he trails off, something that winds up turning deeper and rather more troubled in appearance as the seconds tick by.]
And...I don't remember what happened after that.
no subject
He nods slowly, and asks what may well be a third obvious question:]
And you woke up here just now? So you haven't been back to where you were before yet?
[Make that four.]
no subject
Not here here, no. I walked here after I left the shop. But you're right that I've not been back there yet.
[He'd needed to sit first, but he has to admit he's feeling a little better now, and a thoughtful look crosses his face.]
It's not too far from here, actually. Maybe I should go.
no subject
[He hesitates a beat- it might seem a bit much when he's just met Jamie, but it would be remiss of him to not offer-]
I'll understand if you want to go it alone, but I'd be happy to keep you some company, if you want it.
no subject
Aye, that might not be a bad plan. Come on, then, it's this way.
[And he heads off through the forest without waiting to see if Canada will follow. He's maybe a little impatient that way.]
no subject
Canada follows quietly for a while, but then thinks of something to talk about.]
If I may, Jamie, I was wondering if I could ask you to put your mind to something for me. It doesn't have to be right away...
no subject
[He doesn't stop, precisely, but he does slow down enough so he can glance back over his shoulder - and give Canada the chance to catch up if he likes.]
Put my mind to what?

I have been given the idea that updating the brochure that new arrivals receive would be very beneficial. You have been coming here for a while- I would value your insight and any information you could contribute.
