[There have been many times in Jamie's life where he's not understood what's going on, usually when there's a name or a word or an idea that's far past his time. Usually he figures out some way to get through, either by questions or by pretending he has a clue. It's worked well enough for him before.
Today, however, it's more difficult to do that, thanks to the very large blank in his memory. It would possibly be frustrating if he wasn't still somewhat disorientated by what had happened, but mostly right now he feels strange, in a bit of a daze that makes thinking difficult. In an effort to try and clear the fog around his head, he starts to wander the Plane with no clear destination in mind. Eventually, he finds himself over by the forest, with a strong urge to sit which he doesn't bother to try and fight, instead settling under a large tree and unwrapping a bundle that he's been carrying with him. In the bundle is a broken hunting knife, which he stares down at like he's expecting it to give him some answers. It doesn't really seem to be cooperating, though, and after a moment he sighs, shaking his head even as he continues to look at the object in his hand.]
Och, I wish I knew what was going on.

[And he does, because that it actually was quite helpful - at least as far as his figuring out what that sort of phrase actually meant. Unfortunately, his being able to actually tell her what's going on is, well...a bit more tricky, and he gives her a slightly rueful look.]
I wish I had an answer for ye, but right now I'm not so sure about any of that myself.

Well, let's start with the beginning, right? ( motioning toward the knife, she lowered herself to kneel before the stranger ) You out here hunting or something?

[Seems like as good a place as any to start, right? But his eyes drop back to the knife, and he shakes his head.]
No, that's not my knife. Mine should be...
[He lifts his jacket to check at his waist, where his dirk is sheathed as usual. No changes there.]
And there's no hunting here unless ye bring something to hunt, so it wasn't that. But there must have been some reason I was here, though.

Wait, here? ( after a beat, she realizes what he's said and arches a brow ) Do you mean that you haven't any idea why you're in the woods at all?
Sorry, that should've been 'it was here'. /rolls with it
[There's a brief shrug from him, because he suspects he's still out of it enough that most people'd be able to see.]
I know why I'm sitting here. I came out on purpose once I'd woken up and found that knife next to me. And I remember coming to the Plane, but it's the part after that and when I'd woken up on the table I don't remember.
