Some bloke by the name of Terrence. Was hitting up local pubs, selling off the booze for extra profit to buy drugs.

Seems like a silly thing to do, really. It's not the sneakiest way of gaining money.

Anyone willing to break the law hasn't got nothing remotely like a brain.

There's always smarter ones, though. Just the sloppy ones outweigh them.

I don't care if they're the Queen of Sheba, they're still scum and they're not getting away from the Gene Genie.

[snorts] I never said they weren't. She wasn't too bad, really... Anyway! What's his sentence likely to be?

...the hell are you talking about? And he's looking at at least ten. He's a druggie, too, so I'm gonna see if I can't push for more.

Oh, nothing. And ah, makes sense enough. Drugs are a big problem, aren't they?

The worst kind. Drugs don't do anything but mess everything up.

You know, a lot of old cultures used herbal drugs to simulate experiences with spirits and gods and all that.

Then they were loony on top of being druggie scum.

Ever studied other cultures much?

Yeah. Paddies think farming potatoes is entertainment. [snorts] The hell would I want to learn about other cultures?

Well, just a suggestion but it can be useful when dealing with those people.

So does boshing them upside the head. Works faster, too.

I take it that's your solution to everything?

Don't fix what ain't broken.

Sometimes things can be improved, though.

So what would you suggest, if you've got all these wonderful ideas?

Oh, I'm not saying I have a better idea, although I could think of a few. I was just curious about your background, that's all. What your training was like.

I was just wondering about your training. I have been through the 60's but I didn't really stop by any police stations- [and then he randomly brightens up] Got any police boxes?

[eyes him cautiously, then grunts, lighting a cigarette] Served my year in the national service when I was 18, joined the force when I was 19. Worked my way up through the ranks by having balls and not being afraid to use 'em. Said I was clever, could read people. Got me the DI position under Harry Woolfe. Learned everything I know from him. [aaand have another crazy look, Doctor] Got one or two sitting around, but no one uses 'em. They're useless relics. Ugly things, too.
