[Gene appears, a sandwich stuffed into his mouth, a cig in his other hand. he may or may not have stolen said food from a suspect currently being held at CID. he'll never admit it if you ask, anyway. at any rate, he's grinning maniacally from behind his sammich] Gene Genie: 1. Scum: nicked.

Celebratory sandwich?

Nah, just had a case of the munchies and it was laying about.

[hands in his pockets, expression blank] Guv, word in the Lost and Found?

Always a good enough reason. So who'd you nick?

[gives him a look, sandwich still in his mouth and eyebrow quirked] Don't see why not.

[drops off of the plane and steps into the Lost and Found, shutting the door behind Gene]

Some bloke by the name of Terrence. Was hitting up local pubs, selling off the booze for extra profit to buy drugs.

[is rather surprised by this and makes a face, grunting something through his sandwich]

Your eloquence, as always, astounds.

[shrugs, taking a big bite and making a show of swallowing] I said, 'aren't you moving a bit fast, there, Dorothy?' Afraid someone's gonna barge in on us or something?

[pauses a bit, frowning, but he shakes his head] I just wanted to tell you something.

Do you remember... 'course you do. That conversation we had, the other ngiht. The conversation prior to whatever happened when I got hammered.

Seems like a silly thing to do, really. It's not the sneakiest way of gaining money.

Anyone willing to break the law hasn't got nothing remotely like a brain.

...yeah, I remember that. Don't remember much else after that, but I remember that. [narrows his eyes] I remember you being a bloody div, too. What of it?

I wa-... I d-... What I said wasn't entirely true.

[just crosses his arms, giving Sam the moment to finish what he's trying to say]

I haven't chosen anything yet.

...and that's supposed to mean what, exactly? Wait another two weeks and you'll magically decide hey, that shithole future is still just right for me?

There's always smarter ones, though. Just the sloppy ones outweigh them.

I don't care if they're the Queen of Sheba, they're still scum and they're not getting away from the Gene Genie.

[snorts] I never said they weren't. She wasn't too bad, really... Anyway! What's his sentence likely to be?

...the hell are you talking about? And he's looking at at least ten. He's a druggie, too, so I'm gonna see if I can't push for more.

[gives him a glare, but it softens] It means I can't go and I can't stay. It means I can't abandon my mum and I can't abandon you. It means I have people depending on me in 2006 and people people depending on me here. And that is, nearly verbatim, the speech the Twins gave me yesterday. Be as much of a bastard about it as you like, but I owe you the truth, so there it is: I haven't decided on anything. I can't, not yet.
