[this is Lucy. this is Lucy sitting quietly off to some random side of the Plane, resting in a wide, comfy chair, legs tucked beneath her and reading a book. what book? a random one she snatched from the TARDIS library that gives some (very) truncated history on Gallifrey. why? because her husband has currently gone a mite bonkers and thinks himself someone else. it really, really sucks. so she's doing some reading and hoping to find some answers.

[the cruelty of that comment even makes the Doctor wince a little]

I'll figure out what's happening to him.
no subject
Of course you will. You'll find the problem and fix it, won't you? Because you always have to fix everything, don't you, Doctor?
Who's to say you won't just make it worse?

[glances at book]
Is that the abridged version? Does it have pictures?
no subject
[glares at him]
Don't patronise me, Doctor. At least I'm smart enough to know how to read. I'm certain that's quite a few steps higher than some of your previous companions.
no subject
[unimpressed]
My previous companions? Well, maybe a few of them didn't have writing down, time periods and all that, but they knew a little about loyalty.
no subject
[aaaand she doesn't look at him, because her expression might give her away]
Did they, now? So I suppose loyalty only matters when it's to you?
no subject
[and because he's probably not going to walk away. Buuuut we'll let him believe otherwise]
You don't know anything about loyalty, Lucy. Not to me, not to him, and certainly not to yourself.
no subject
[she doesn't really want him to, shhh]
Using my name, now? And here I thought you'd forgotten it. [does glance up momentarily, then goes back to her book] You don't know me half as well as you think you do, Doctor. Don't delude yourself.
no subject
I thought I knew you. Obviously I was wrong. It's not often I admit to being wrong. But you, Mrs. Lucy Saxon, you proved me very, very wrong.
[beat]
I think we can help them. The Doctor and the Master----Rassilon and Omega, whoever they are.
no subject
[also a beat]
And again, I ask you: why should I help you?
no subject
Because, you want to help him. And you can't do it alone.
no subject
Perhaps. Which would explain my side of it. But why, then, would you ask me in the first place? Certainly there are far more loyal companions you could solicit help from.
no subject
Well, some of my companions can't read, but they're at least intelligent enough to know that they should despise the Master. I need someone so blindingly devoted as yourself to help.
no subject
You simply can't accept the fact I actually love him, can you?
no subject
And love. Love requires an evolutionary standard I think you've missed, along with sensitivity and compassion. But you're devoted enough. He could be trapped that way if we don't do something.
no subject
[she's just gonna stare at him, hands tensed at her side so she doesn't slap him again] You've gone too far. How dare you-- [and reign it in!] Fine. What do you suggest we do?
no subject
[smirk] Break through that wifely veneer, did I? I was beginning to wonder if there was a person in there.
To put a stop to it, we have to figure out what is causing it.
