[have the TARDIS walking about with a glass of some sort of wine. she's so taking advantage of having prolonged, physical projections to finally try things she couldn't before]

I will never understand the fascination with imbibing alcohol. This is the fourth one I've had and I am as unimpressed with this one as the last three. I must wonder why the Doctor insists on keeping it around.

I've noticed a great deal more people arriving in this place. If we could calculate when a new being in being drawn into this nexus, perhaps we could harness that energy as a means of escape for ourselves. Has anyone tried such a thing, yet?

There are things you see... do... which you wish you hadn't seen and done. Sometimes, alcohol helps.

You've never gone out to the pub with mates, then? You'd be better off asking Gene Hunt about that one, but essentually, you get very hammered together, through various drinking games or just straight drinking, and somehow all the talking and the shared humiliation brings a group of people closer together.

Ah, regret. I am...familiar...with that, though I do not believe it's possible for me to ever forget my actions.

[quirks a brow] Gone out with mates? No. I've only recently perfected the ability to psychically project my consciousnes into a tangible humanoid form. I do not 'go' anywhere but where the Doctor wishes. [a playful smile] Well. Most of the time.

You seem surprised. [frowns, giving him a closer look over] I take it you aren't aware of who I am? I supposed otherwise, considering your resemblance to the Master. I assumed you a clone of some sort, albeit one with actual sense.

I'm nothing like him.

Beyond base physical appearance, obviously. My scans indicate you are quite human.

He doesn't look much like me.

He looks enough. Though I am forced to admit he's much better groomed, though I suppose that is one thing the Master was always particularly good about. Your clothing is about as bad as the Doctor's during some of his regenerations. The jacket, particularly. [oh yes, she went there]

[BITCH, YOU DID NOT!] He dresses like a bloody businessman! This jacket is fantastic.

Does that somehow make what I said less true? [sniffs] That's what the Doctor said about his Sixth's coat, as well, the atrocious thing.

I really don't feel the need to stand here and listen to my clothing being abused.

[don't listen to what the mean machine says about you, jacket. Sammy loves you!]

I was simply responding to your statement. No need to get tetchy.

You insulted me. People tend to respond negatively when they're insulted.

An insult would be a purposeful action. My intent was not to assault your sensibilities.

Insults don't have to be intentional.

[pause, as he decides to socialise the weird ship]

You have to think about what you're going to say before you say it, think about the feelings of the person you're talking to. You have to be... sensitive. Otherwise you hurt a lot of people and make a lot of enemies.

[shrugs] What use do I have for feelings, boy? I am a ship. The only one who matters is the one who pilots me.

[frowns] You don't... care about other people?

[tilts her head] Not in any way you would understand. I protect those on board when I must and I do everything within my power to aid the Doctor and keep him safe. But I am a machine, boy, sentient though I may be. Emotions are not of the same importance to me. Only the Doctor matters, in the long run. Only the Doctor remains.

Doesn't sound like the sort of philosophy the Doctor espouses.

I am not like other beings, human. I am the Doctor's and he is mine. I am his most trusted, steadfast companion and I would do anything for him. He knows this. My lack of emotional attachment to the majority of his companions or the human race mean little in the long run.

But it's not the way he thinks, is it? He cares about... everyone, sounds like, from what he's told me. Thinks that every life matters.

So you basically disagree with his entire philosophy on life, the universe, and everything.

[laughs] Silly boy. You're too young to try and explain away the Doctor, especially to me. And just because I do not care -- and honestly, what does it matter to you -- does not mean I disagree with helping. Which is what the Doctor does. Caring, well...that is something I don't think you could fathom.

You do realise that demeaning other people doesn't make you any better. It just makes it sound like you don't have anything real to back yourself up.

I have centuries upon centuries to back me up, boy. You say he cares? Caring involves attachment, but helping does not hinge upon base emotions. You say he wants to save everyone, and you are utterly true. But to care? No. He is a Time Lord and he is great in so many ways, but to care that much for so many people, when, in the end, he must watch at least some of them die? No. He does not care in the way you believe he does, and you would do well to remember that the next time you decide to lecture me.

That's was a very defensive speech.
