[010]

[during the current crisis, Oliver has taken shelter in the Plane's library. he is reclining in a comfortable chair, with a book on the floor in front of him--upside-down and open, as though it's slipped off his lap. he is just stirring from sleep, and sits up, causing the back of the chair to come up with him. he shakes his head, looking about groggily for an instant--then, instantly, he's on edge. he looks slowly around the room, contemplating it warily] Hey, is someone...? ...no.

[slowly, he reaches down to retrieve his book--something on Greek and Roman mythology, for the curious. but he's still stiff and edgy, glancing around him before he turns his gaze downward, flipping back to his page previous page. but instead of reading, he looks up again, tense] Who-who's there? I hear you!

[ooc: Oliver has also made a choice! In your comment, please leave a note for me, either to PM you or your AIM/e-mail/whathave you so I can ask a question before he interacts with your character.]

Because I'm not on fire.

[He sighs and lets go.]

You must've hit your head or something.

[Asch rests a hand on his sword, the other at his side. That's sort of the way he stands though, so it's not a threatening motion or anything.]

... Again? Don't tell me...

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
So you think it's an experiment?

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-04 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Did anything weird happen before you woke up? [Now he's too paranoid to sleep. But then again that's par for the course for Asch.]

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-05 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[His eyebrow jumps.]

No. What happened there?

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-05 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
[He struggles to keep his tone even, and it's obvious.]

You guess? It's because of that that we're stuck here in the first place.

[He reins in his anger and turns away to ponder this change of events. So they're continuing to experiment on people even though they're trapped here. It figures, really... At the same time, depending on the kind of 'sight' given, it could become very useful.]

... If they wanted us to simply die they wouldn't play around with experiments beforehand. What do they have to gain from doing this?

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Tch. [That brings him to his next thought.] Whoever got us stuck here knows it. If they cared enough to fix it they'd have done it already.

[He crosses his arms.]

What happened last time?

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
... No, I wasn't.

[He does manage to look intrigued, at least.]

Death matches?

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-06 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
... That would thin the opposition.

Why did it stop?

[identity profile] promisedsomeone.livejournal.com 2010-10-07 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He snaps without warning.] I know that they're people! [Of course he knows.] But you would have put up a resistance against anything downright obvious, right? People die every day and that's a fact of life, but it's usually for a reason and not in large numbers. You start killing a significant amount of people without any regard for who or what they are, and two things happen. First people get angry, and then they get scared. Scared people can't do a damn thing, and it's contagious. Eventually they would've won, not because you were out of fighters but because no one would've had the guts to think of something different.

[He runs a hand through his cockatiel-like bangs.] And it didn't work anyway. It's good to know that people here are useful for something. Whoever did this hasn't shown themselves... That's why you need to put together the clues and figure out who did it. You did it once. You can do it again.

[Asch glances at Oliver for a long, quiet moment. He might have something else to say, but he thinks better of it.]

Fine.
