[There is a Doctor wandering the snow-covered hills on the Plane again. He's actually without his leather jacket, simply wearing a black jumper and trousers. He scans the air with his screwdriver, frowning, before bending down to scoop up some snow]

All this heat and humidity beats the ice caves on Raxacoricofallapatorius. But it's wrong. This snow ought to be melting. [he pockets the screwdriver, before packing the snow into a ball and tossing it between his hands] Wonder if it'll melt with the storm -- there's got to be one soon, the weather's perfect for it.

[pauses] Perfect if you're on Earth, anyway. Of all the planets in all the universes to choose from, why'd the Machine pick Earth for a weather simulation?

[ooc: Nine has been canon-bumped to the end of Boom Town!]

Sort things out? [He sounds so... hopeless at this point.] How can I sort things out if I have someone else living inside of me?!

[shakes his head] Think of it more like you've got another personality, and you've got to learn how to deal with both. 'Course, the amnesia's not helping either...has the Plane got an actual doctor? Crane doesn't count.

I don't want another personality! [Oh god, he's full on yelling now.] I just want to be me!

[Emil can yell all he likes, Nine is just going to hug him. :|]

[Emil freezes for a minute, but then the trembling in his fingers takes over the rest of his body, and he accepts the hug. It's more than that, really; he's clinging to the man's shirt and burying his face in the shoulder given, his breathing hitched as he tries not to cry.]

Who am I? I-I don't know! I don't know anymore... I don't know anything...

[softly] You're still very much Emil, and you'll learn to cope with the rest. Trust me.

I... I trust you. [Emil doesn't move from within the hug.]

[he smiles a bit] Good, glad to hear it. [and then, because he doesn't really know what else to do] ...You want some tea?

[Emil is suddenly very silent, his grip turning from cute and clingy to something like death.]

Rrraaaagh! What the hell do you think you're doing?!

[Whoa, that wasn't nice. There's a fist swinging for Nine's face.]

[and because today is just not Nine's day, the fist lands exactly where it was aiming. Nine covers the abused area with his hand, letting go of Emil] Just trying to help! Emil trusts me, you ought to trust me too. For his sake.

You're making it worse! [He jumps back, giving Nine a death glare.] He's not ready. Pushing him will only make him fall apart. You're too caught up in your quest to save him that you don't see any of it!

The most important thing right now is protecting Marta and finishing our mission. Emil— comes last. You're screwing everything up!

[shakes his head] You're wrong. Sometimes you've got to fall apart to get better. And protecting people is difficult when you've got no idea who you are.

That's why I should be the one in charge all the time. I'm not falling apart, and I definitely don't need YOUR help to do MY job!

[crosses his arms] Didn't even know you had a job. I'm just helping my friend, and I can't do that if you're always in charge. He's stronger than you think...stronger than he thinks. Give him a chance.

He wouldn't need help if wasn't such a weakling. [He scoffs.] We had an agreement. He gets to deal with Marta, and I take on monsters and everything else. That's just how it is.

You and that bastard with the suit are making him look too hard. Something bad will happen if Emil figures it out— I guarantee it.

Something bad for you, or bad for him?

Bad for everyone. One distraction— one delay— and the Cores will fall into enemy hands. After that, we're history.

He's not strong enough to deal with himself and our mission at the same time.

How d'you know?

He spends too much energy fighting me and not enough doing the smart thing.

Seems to me like fighting you is the smart thing.

Why, just because I might've tried to kill you a few times? I shouldn't have been manipulated like that. He let that stupid doctor know too much... trusted him too much. Just like you!

[scoffs] There's a big difference between me and Crane. I've got no intention of manipulating anyone. All I want is to help him.

He said that, too. He didn't even need to reach in to screw us up. [He growls.] You're more like a human than an alien. Foolish and impulsive and completely worthless.

[smugly] But you're still listening.
