[The Doctor is in a relatively good mood, and it may have something to do with the fact that he's got one of his companions with him. This companion is a fluffy black cat named Mortimer, who is currently lapping up a saucer of milk. The Doctor shakes his head as he watches him.]

Dunno how you can stand the stuff. All the species in all the universe and it has to come out of a cow.

Suppose it's a good thing we restocked the kitchen, though. 'Course, it's gonna have to be restocked every couple of weeks now that we've got so many mouths to feed. [He doesn't sound overly frustrated by this, however. Quite the opposite, in fact.] Remember when it was just you and me? Blimey, seems like forever ago... [he trails off, brooding for a moment. Then he turns his attention to Mortimer again, since the cat is demanding it by plopping down onto Nine's lap.]

Speaking of new companions, d'you think we ought to get another cat? Seems like you could use a feline friend, and maybe one who's mum won't try to claw me to death. No more domestics for me, thanks!

[There's a pause]

You know, I can just ask the Master.

[sighs] There was a War, Doctor. The Last Great Time War. Don't want to give you any details, 'cause it might affect decisions you'll have to make.

How can it be the "Last"? There will always be wars. If the Time Lords assume that peace will follow this war, I'm sad to say that they're probably wrong.

That's just it, though. There aren't any more Time Lords. ...It's just me.

[there's a long pause]

You can't be serious.

[wryly] Wasn't joking when I said it made the Black Guardian look like a piece of cake.

What caused it?

[The Doctor debates his answer. On the one hand, he doesn't want his self to hear it from anyone else first, but on the other...he doesn't want him carrying that guilt yet. But he can't protect him forever.]

The Daleks, Doctor. The Daleks started it. And I finished it. Ten million Dalek ships burned in the sky, and the Time Lords burned with them.

[The Doctor frowned, looking at his other self.]

I'm so sorry.

[shakes his head] Don't be. Omega and the Master...they're likely to tell you it's your fault. For not destroying the lot of them when you had the chance. But I wouldn't change that decision, even if I could.

[small smile] Don't worry. I rarely listen to Omega and the Master anyway.

[he is digging some jelly babies out of his pocket just for you, Four.] Good. Keep ignoring them. [he wishes he could :|]

[he looks at Nine for a moment, looking at the jelly babies.] Oh, I'm quite good at ignoring people.

[hands him the whole bag -- it's full, which might indicate he rarely actually eats them himself. Fondly;] So I've noticed. Might have something to do with all those curls you've got. Blocks out the noise.

[rolls his eyes as he eats a jelly baby] The curls don't block out the noise. I'm very attentive and observant when I choose to be.

[he's totally teasing you, Four] Yeah? Could've fooled me.

Oh, and what would I call that leather jacket of yours? That seems like a mid-life crisis if I ever saw one.

Oi! This jacket's fantastic, thanks. You want a mid-life crisis, just wait 'til you meet our Sixth.

Leather jacket, shaved head...yes, that's a midlife crisis.

It's not shaved! I've got plenty of hair, you've just got too much.
