[The Doctor is in a relatively good mood, and it may have something to do with the fact that he's got one of his companions with him. This companion is a fluffy black cat named Mortimer, who is currently lapping up a saucer of milk. The Doctor shakes his head as he watches him.]

Dunno how you can stand the stuff. All the species in all the universe and it has to come out of a cow.

Suppose it's a good thing we restocked the kitchen, though. 'Course, it's gonna have to be restocked every couple of weeks now that we've got so many mouths to feed. [He doesn't sound overly frustrated by this, however. Quite the opposite, in fact.] Remember when it was just you and me? Blimey, seems like forever ago... [he trails off, brooding for a moment. Then he turns his attention to Mortimer again, since the cat is demanding it by plopping down onto Nine's lap.]

Speaking of new companions, d'you think we ought to get another cat? Seems like you could use a feline friend, and maybe one who's mum won't try to claw me to death. No more domestics for me, thanks!

No cats. They're too aloof, they wake you up in the middle of the night and they claw on my scarf. Get a dog, instead.

[snorts] Your scarf's not an issue, I'm awake in the middle of the night anyway, and I've got Omega for a companion too. He's a fair bit more aloof than a cat, and that's saying something.

Well don't let your cats near my- [HOLD THE PHONE, YOU SAID OMEGA]

Why do you have Omega for a companion?

[grins] I'd be more worried about your next self than my cats. He actually unraveled one of them.

And that's sort of a long story...has anyone explained the bit about merging realities yet?

He did?! How horrible! Well. The list of reasons why I have to give my future-self a talking-to is slowly increasing.

No, I don't think so-and I'd much rather hear it from you than read it in this pamphlet. What's merging realities?

To be fair, he was having some massive regeneration trauma.

[rolls his eyes fondly] It's when realities merge together. Bits of your universe wind up in someone else's, and vice versa. Happens when you've got strong emotions toward someone, whether it's friendship, love, or in Omega's case...hate.

[because she's just like that, she comes up on him from behind and leeeeans around him to scritch at Mortimer's fuzzy head]

You don't think the TARDIS is already full to bursting? Not that I mind, really; I'm good with animals.

[he totally heard you coming with his ginormous ears, and is thus not surprised. have a smile, Dorothy] No such thing as a full TARDIS. She's bigger on the inside for a reason. [winks]

[she rolls her eyes, but smiles back]

You just want to adopt the whole universe, don'cha? Won't be satisfied until everybody's callin' you "Daddy". [...in one way or another.]

[have some eye rolling action right back] Not the whole universe. I have got some standards. And I hope nobody's calling me "daddy." [in any sense of the word]

You let Omega on board; what standards are those, then?

[never miss a chance to rip on Omega, Dorothy. She scoots around and sits next to him to pet Mortimer some more]

The place is so full of Time Lords I'm starting to feel like an endangered species. Wouldn't mind another animal or two; least they don't mind playing with me every now and then.

The standards where he's saved my life more than once, and he didn't actually mean to kill me.

["endangered species" was the wrong phrase to use, and the Doctor is quiet now] There's only two of us at the mo' -- well, three, when Straxus joins us. Jack's just as human as you, even if he's a 51st century bloke.

[she frowns, still petting Mortimer] Yeah, well. He's too vulgar for me. I don't even want to know what he'd say if I asked him to play with me.

[TRUTH. she shrugs a little and squirms in her seat] I am the only girl, though. If I could crack a window to let some of the testosterone out, I would!

Let me guess. He hates you so much that your realities start to merge. [he sighs]

That sounds awful.

It's not completely awful; he has saved my life twice now. [and you know, killed him once, but that's beside the point] He's fairly useful to have around when it comes to repairing the TARDIS, too.

[rolls his eyes again] You'll warm up to him. 'Sides, there's nothing wrong with a bit of dancing.

[and then he smirks a bit] We could get a girl cat. 'Course, then we've got to worry about kittens.

There is plenty wrong with that, thank you very much. [and frowning, she refuses to elaborate on that. It's very clear that just thinking about it makes her uncomfortable! Apparently it's okay for HER to joke about it, just not for anyone else to.]

Well, that's why Bob Barker tells us to have our pets spayed and neutered, Doctor. You tellin' me we still haven't had ol' Mort fixed yet?

Speaking of the TARDIS, how is the girl?

[Consider this a check-up for the Doctor. Brax just wants to make sure he isn't going to start waxing lyrical about needing a new best enemy and all.] You know, I've been told talking to cats is the first sign of wisdom. Apparently, I was told wrong.

She's fantastic, as usual. The desktop theme's coral now, by the way.

Coral? [apprehensive Doctor is apprehensive]

Is there any way of me seeing it?

[hesitantly] You could if our universes merged, but I'd rather not let that happen, thanks.

[hey, Doctors don't need check-ups! without even glancing up from the kitty;] I've been told there's a fine line between genius and insanity, but I like to think I dabble in both.

[he raises an eyebrow, but he's glad for the subject change] Er....no? Hasn't actually been to a vet, now that I think about it.

[her jaw drops and her mouth forms a little "o"]

Doctor!! That's irresponsible even for you! He needs his vaccinations and his check-ups! What if he gets feline leukemia? And if we don't get him fixed, feline AIDS is a real possibility! If you're going to care for an animal, you have to care for them!
