[raises eyebrow and he feels so awkward saying this] Sex.

Oh. ...That's not what we do best!

[drinks his rum] That's what you're known for through most of the universe. That and food, actually. You should see how many races adopt chips.

Sex and food??

[pauses to think] And pollution. And shrewd business. Oh and when you evolve into gas clouds, you're known for taking up loads of space. You also gave the universe thousands of new tourist attractions, like Planet Hollywood.

I'm glad to see we're held in such high esteem through the grander scheme of things.

Aw, well, at least most species think you're quaint in a positive sort of way.

[nods] You should have seen what some of my school textbooks said about Earth and humans. I always liked Earth, though. I said it'd be the first place I visited.

...Has no one every hit you for talking like that?

[blinks] What for?

It's a bit offensive the way you talk about us, and by extension, me.

Oh. [plays with his glass] Right, sorry. I don't mean it in a bad way, really.

No, just in a sort of patronising, "Oh, you quaint little humans, how ignorant you all are," sort of way. [that's right, Sam's calling you on it]

Well, some of you are. That's not what I'm getting at, though! It's like...you lot do things just to do them. You go out and explore new worlds and do really incredibly stupid and dangerous things just to do it. Because you want to. Because it's there. There were these human explorers I met a couple of years back. They dove in through a gravity funnel to a planet orbiting a black hole, Sam. Because they could! Because they wanted to see what's there! Now that's spirit. Honestly, I mean that some species could learn from you lot. It's more than just how excellent your chips are. It's what you do.

Plenty of humans are nothing like that. Cowardly and boring, sticking to what they know, not daring to try for more. Most humans are like that. Some of us are different, but we can't be swept under any collective label, for better or worse.

Most humans have a lot of spirit in them. Just might not realize it.

Most of them settle.

Most people in general do, don't they?

Exactly! So stop generalizing about my species.
