[The Doctor appears on the Plane, a mixture of utterly confused, and mildly annoyed] Oi! Bit more of an explanation would be nice! What sort of machine... [and he trails off when he notices the stars and galaxies, his expression turning to one of manic delight]

Fantastic! [walks around a bit, relieved to find that he is not falling through space, before noticing something] ...Hang on, this is all a bit wrong. Like some idiot cut up the universe and pasted it back together, but they’ve got no idea where anything goes. [digs through his pockets and eventually pulls out a red sharpie and a pad of paper, drawing out some proper star charts, and sticking them onto the “floor” of the Plane with duct tape. Because it holds the universe together.]

See? Not terribly complicated, is it? I’m sure you lot could fix it up this “machine” of yours with a bit of jiggery-pokery in no time. [crosses his arms] I’d fix it myself, but I’ve sort of got things to do, places to see, etc. So if someone wouldn’t mind showing me the way out, I’d appreciate it, thanks. [ waits for some kind of response] ...Ah. Maybe a bit of bribery? I’ve got...erm...[digs around in his pockets again, and pulls out a banana] ...a banana? Good source of potassium, bananas. [another pause] That’s never going to work, is it?

[He nods.] Yep. You travel a lot, too?

[beams] All the time! I've got this...hang on, what's your name? Don't think I ever asked.

Oh, right. Sorry. It's Roxas. Who are you?

The Doctor! Nice to meet you, Roxas.

The Doctor...? I met another guy called that before. You know him?

Depends. Dorothy said there were quite a few of me about, but if they're future or alternate regenerations, can't say I've met them yet. What was he like?

Um... [vague gesturing goes here] about yea high, wore a suit, brown hair... We talked about traveling and friends, mostly.

Regenerations?

[shakes his head] Description doesn't ring a bell, might be a future me. I've got the ability to regenerate into a new self...sort of a trick for cheating death. Doesn't last forever though, I've only got a few more regenerations left.

A new self?

[nods] New look, new personality quirks...we've still got the old memories, though, and all the essential bits that make us the Doctor. I'm the Ninth.

Ninth? Wow... that must come in pretty handy, huh?

[if only he knew about Handy, he would be punning right now] Yep! Bit confusing for our companions, if we've got them at the time, but otherwise very useful.

[~~I was just thinking that, actually—~~] But it sounds it'd be neat, too.

[~~great minds~~] Neat? Wouldn't say that, exactly...regenerating isn't ever easy. But it's better than the other option.

[~~Heyyy... I wonder what would happen if the Doctor got a Nobody. Would it regenerate, too!?~~] Right... You're right. So, if you're the ninth, and you said you don't have a whole lot left...?

[~~I...dk o.O~~] I can only regenerate twelve times. That's thirteen lives altogether.

[~~That'd be badass.~~] So, you have... four left?

Exactly. Gonna have to make them last.

Sounds like a good plan to me.
