[The Doctor is back around! Well, more or less. He technically didn't leave, he's just been avoiding the Plane entirely. He would rather still be away but lately he prefers sitting somewhere away from the TARDIS while he does his work. It’s more relaxing to take a stroll through space.

Speaking of work, he’s completely engrossed in a data pad. He’s scrolling through it with a stylus, occasionally stopping to click something or read longer. Once or twice, his reading is accompanied by a small holographic projection of various planets above the screen.

He’s taken to walking around the empty space, mostly following the arms of a spiral galaxy. Get his attention if you want him!]

Oh, yes, well. That seems quite possible in this place, so you may want to keep an eye out for that. [A pause.] Do most people in your universe dress like that?

Let me put it this way.

You hear of Spider-Man, Hulk, or Iron Man?

I have, yes! Bit more familiar with Spiderman. A friend of mine had me take her to the première. I quite liked it.

Oh! Well, that's unique. I don't think I've heard of you, sorry. But I'm rather behind on those things. I see the films sometimes. Depends on if a friend wants to or not. And even then, usually something attacks or goes wrong and it gets busy and then we end up not finishing.

So to answer your question, lots of costumes.

I've always been curious: why costumes? I mean, some of them are very impressive, just wondering if that's a secret, unwritten law of superheroes.

It's usually an identity thing, but it's more of a traditional thing, yeah.

Plus chicks dig spandex and leather.

Really? I never knew that. Both, actually. Though I'd assumed it was a tradition. It seems like you really can't be a superhero unless you have your own distinctive look.

Well, of course you have to have your own look. Otherwise it's copyright infringement.

[He laughs.] Is it really?

Sure. I mean, how would you feel if some guy started travelling through time and space in a porta-potty, calling himself "The Professor"?

...Actually, that's sort of...happened before. I wasn't very happy about it, no. And they got the name wrong! Really, it was a complete embarrassment.

Is it really such a problem, though? I've only ran across it once or twice myself and it's been a very long life.

Well, yeah, but there aren't a lot of happy-go-lucky time travelers where you come from. Where I come from, superpowers aren't exactly an under-the-radar thing. Gotta watch out for people movin' in on your super-turf.

Do you have a certain area, then?

Intellectual property. Physically, I usually stay pretty close to my own kind. It's where the money is.

Ah, a hero for hire sort of thing? Is that accepted in the community? Most of them seem to be more towards...revenge or pushed into it or possibly from other worlds.

I guess you couldn't say I'm a particularly popular guy, no, but it pays the bills.

Saves me from having to lead a double life or answer boring questions on morality and junk.

Well, I suppose if that works, it's probably easier than the Clark Kent deal. I never really understood that. It seems a bit obvious.

I'd be inclined to agree except Lois has probably never seen Superman's face.
