[The Doctor is back around! Well, more or less. He technically didn't leave, he's just been avoiding the Plane entirely. He would rather still be away but lately he prefers sitting somewhere away from the TARDIS while he does his work. It’s more relaxing to take a stroll through space.

Speaking of work, he’s completely engrossed in a data pad. He’s scrolling through it with a stylus, occasionally stopping to click something or read longer. Once or twice, his reading is accompanied by a small holographic projection of various planets above the screen.

He’s taken to walking around the empty space, mostly following the arms of a spiral galaxy. Get his attention if you want him!]

Nice to see you too, Doctor!

[Except she is really quite proud of her pies, so she will forgive him and hold up her pie for him to see.]

'Course it is. This one's a triple berry-- blackberry, raspberry and strawberry. New recipe. Not sure if it's too sweet or not.

[Since Dorothy is awfully observant, she peers at his little data pad thingy.]

What's that?

[The Doctor glances at the data pad, then at the pie.]

Well, I might be willing to tell you for a bite of pie.

[Dorothy produces a fork and hands it over. As if she just... carries one around with her just in case someone needs to eat something. This is quite possibly true.]

Tell me what you think!

[Given the Plane and the constant need for food, it's a good choice. He accepts the fork and digs into the pie, taking a nice, big bite.]

Mm, that's gorgeous. Perfect sweetness, I think. [Takes another bite or two.] Could use a few more raspberries.

Mm, I thought so too. But I was worried about how much sugar I put in-- since blackberries aren't very sweet on their own, I added a lot of sugar. But I think if I have more raspberries, I can cut back on the sugar a bit, since they're awful sweet naturally.

It's all very complicated. Cooking's just chemistry, y'know!

[The Doctor ponders this, then nods. Also steals a few more bites.]

Chemically speaking, that should allow you to cut back on the sugar, yes. Cooking is chemistry that I'm excellent at in theory and terrible at in practice.

[She grins and lets him have as much as he wants. She'll probably let him eat the whole thing if he wants. She is kind that way.]

Aw, it's not that complicated. It's all about balance. Comes as easy to me as magic. Same principle! If you're lucky, I'll teach you someday.

[He's just eating away happily, so that's a good thing.]

A friend tried to teach me how to cook. It, well, it went well enough, I suppose. It might be something good to know.

"Well enough"? Somehow I don't believe that.

It's important! Food is the stuff of life. Providing food for the people you care about is one of the best ways to show that you love them! And if you do it right, it's one of the best ways to get them to love you back. The way to a man's heart is through his stomach; that's what the wise women say.

[He laughs.] It certainly wins points in my favour. I appreciate eating food, it's making it that's more difficult.

Well, maybe I'll give you a lesson or two, someday. No reason a person can't learn, even if they're a bachelor.

[She's eyeballing him something fierce now, but mostly that little PDA thing.]

Now come on, you said you'd tell me what that was! I delivered on my end of the bargain!

[He looks up, blinking innocently with the fork in his mouth.]

Hm? Oh! Right, yes. This! This is a data pad. It's a bit like an electronic library and a notebook, though really is can store any sort of data you want and replay it at will.

Oh, like a PDA? Why didn't you just say so?

It's not just a PDA! It's incredibly more useful than those. And the display is much better.

It's a PDA with a holo-screen.

And a great deal more features.

Can it bake a pie?

I could probably find a way to program it to bake a pie, yes.
