[Misaki is in the Astral kitchen, doing... well, it's not entirely clear WHAT she's doing. There are pots bubbling over on the stove, produce everywhere, piles of dishes in the sink and the oven is starting to smoke out of both sides as though attempting to cry.]

[Misaki squeaks and opens the door, releasing a black avalanche of smoke. She starts coughing, squints through the black fog, and her eyes go wide.]

[Very gingerly, she shuts the oven door, switches it off, and leans her back against it.]

...oops.

[And she proceeds to have a gigglefit.]

No one, now. I doubt even Haruki would try it. [She takes one last peek inside the oven and wince.] Actually I think I did kill it. Again.

[She rubs a smutch of something dark and goopy over her forehead without realizing it.] Oh god, Sam, you have got to help me.

[She opens the oven, almost reaches in, then stops herself and gets potholders.]

It was supposed to... [Misaki draws the smoking pile of ash and... pineapple? out of the bowels of the poor kitchen appliance.]

I've tried! Oh god, I've tried. [She sets the... notroast down before she drops it and strips off the oven mitts, wiping at her eyes.] Don't ask my dad how many calls he's gotten from his friends at dispatch about fire trucks at my flat, that rant takes hours.

I somehow feel it would be worth it.

[he smiles, slightly, and considers her]

[Misaki leans against the counter, thoughtful.] I'm... getting there. Yeah. Drove me crazy at first, being stuck in the middle of nowhere with no casework and no one to talk to, but once I got past that... it's been nice. Really, really nice.

[She taps her fingers against the counter.] She apologized, by the way. Diva did.

[rubs his neck, as it really is difficult to ask 'did she sound sincere?']

I don't think she liked the things I forgave her for, but yes, I think it was sincere.

[frowns at the first thing]

I mean I've been harboring a lot of anger over things that happened... a while ago. And regardless of whether or not she felt the need to be forgiven, I needed to let it go. [She shrugs.] You can't hate a child for being a child. It may not be exactly the same, but... it's close enough to still be true.

[his frown deepens, but it's Sam, so what are you going to do]

I don't even know most of what's between you two.
