[Somebody's returned to the plane-- and this time she's got a rather large picnic basket hanging from the crook of her elbow. Kneeling, she takes the red-and-white checked blanket tucked into the top of the blanket and spreads it over the ground. From the basket she unpacks paper plates, forks, napkins, and...

And PIES. Lots and lots of fresh, hot, delicious-smelling home-baked pies.]

I promised pie, and pie I deliver. Anybody want a slice?

Oh, for Pete's sake, just call me Dorothy, really! What kind of princess bakes pies? It's only a title.

I'll pass it along. She loves to hear her cooking's 'preciated. Though I'm awful flattered.

But I like calling you 'Princess,' Princess. It's fun.

And it's hardly flattery; this is good pie. May I have some more?

Well I s'pose you can call me that, as long as you don't 'spect me to answer to it all the time.

Course you may. Want to try a slice of cherry?

I would love to.

[she cuts him an EXTRA-big slice.] There you go. Whipped cream?

I'd love some, if you don't mind.

[his smile slips into something slightly less over-excitable, perhaps something almost sinister]

So, Princess. You're from Oz? Can you tell me a bit about it?

[Reddi-Wip for the Master! Maybe it's a lot, but hey-- sweet tooth. Who's complaining? She doesn't seem to notice the change in his demeanor, or if she does, she's not showing any outward reaction.]

Sure I can. What would you like to know?

[he totally doesn't mind the whipped cream in excess]

Oh, anything at all. You see, a friend of mind - well, a companion - well, a - you know, I don't think there is a word for it. Anyway, you've met one of the Doctors, and he seems mighty interested in getting to visit your world. If he does, then my world will be bound to yours as well. And I hate to go into any situation unprepared, you understand. I prefer to know the layout of the lands and the cultures of the countries.

I've met lots of them. They seem like they're everywhere, don't they?

He does? It will? Well, I didn't know that. What's your world like? I suppose I ought to ask, if it's to become a part of Oz.

Well, Oz is basically a big country, roughly square in shape, surrounded on all four sides by a desert so hot that anybody setting foot on it evaporates in an instant. You can get around that with magic, but it tends to keep the borders protected. It's made up of four smaller countries: Gillikin country to the north, Munchkin land to the east, Quadling country to the south, and the land of the Winkies to the west. And in the center of it all is the Emerald City, which is closer to a state than a city, to be fair. That's where Ozma lives.

[Blah blah blah. Dorothy likes talking about Oz. There is a lot to say about it, after all, and she so rarely gets to discuss it with people who aren't in it! They tend to think she's nuts.]

Oh, it just has aliens and time travel and things. Can you tell me about the countries, first? I get the feeling Emeral City is the heart of the matter. Gilikin, Munchkin, Quadling, and the Winkies. Hm. Reminds me of that one show I like.

Hm.

Well, they're all different, in their own way. They each tend to stick to one color, more often than not, and they've all got their own quirks. And then there's the Witches... but I'm not sure I oughta say about them. Do you believe in magic, at all?

Oh, I believe there are things unexplained, but I also believe in science and mathematics and the truth in numbers. There's always an explaination, but the answer isn't always on hand.

Well, that's as may be, but I don't think Glinda will take it very well if people who don't believe in magic turn up in Oz. I'm not even sure if it'll work. I mean, it's not like you can just take a plane to Oz. I only got there the first time because of a tornado! And the second time I was tossed overboard during a storm. Oz tends to sort of... choose who gets to go there.

Tell me about magic in Oz, then, Princess.

Well, it's like magic anywhere else, really. Most of it's the incantation or magic-object type, though Glinda makes potions sometimes. And besides accidents or suicide, it's the only way people can really get killed, because nobody in Oz dies unless they want to. It's why I'm still around.

Immortality by choice. Interesting.
