[Everyone missed the Doctor, right? Of course. But today is a bit different.

You see, he's talking to a plant. The plant is on a metal, rounded picnic table and he brought a tree that appears to be going through autumn and an area of grass with it from whatever planet he was on. But the important part is that he's sitting at the table with a sandwich, eating it and talking to this plant]

You know, you really are brilliant. ...No, really! I mean that. Sane, nice, loves Elvis. Also, you're not violent. You have no idea what a rarity that is these days.

[he shakes his head with a sigh and keeps munching on his sandwich and talking to the plant]

Sound plants?

Yep! They feed off sound waves in the same way that regular plants feed off the sun. They can also communicate through those sound waves.

Do they have their own language?

More or less. It's a bit basic, you could say, since it relies simple ideas through different pitches of the same sound but I think it's quite lovely.

Can you understand it?

Oh, yes. I can understand anything thanks to the TARDIS. She translates all languages.

She does? Really? [That'ssocool.]

Her telepathic channels go through your mind and translate everything. It's all quite handy.

Like when we're here?

Actually, yes. I suspect the translation units used in this place are quite similar to the TARDIS's. Some low frequency telepathic circuit.

[Ryotarou hesitates, then moves over to sit at the other side of the picnic table tentatively.]

So it's in all of our heads?

[he nods, making sure the plant is not between them] I think it is. I don't really have any proof, though.

But it makes sense, doesn't it? Although... I'm not sure that would explain how our languages got mixed up that one time. If it's just translating, shouldn't we have been able to speak what we normally do?

Well, the TARDIS wouldn't mention it but even her translators mess up sometimes. Just luckily it's not often.

So.. sometimes you speak the wrong thing on accident, too?

Or sometimes there's odd translations. Putting something into Welsh, for example.

... Into Welsh?

Sometimes, yes. But it's quite rare.

Why Welsh?

Oh, Welsh is strange even for an Earth language. It likes to pop up all over the place.

... Even for an Earth language?

Earth languages are a bit strange, really.

How so?

Ah, well. What I was used to before I ever heard Earth languages was...well, hang on. [reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pen and paper. [Ryotarou looks curiously at the writing.] I see... That is pretty strange, so in reverse...
