[Everyone missed the Doctor, right? Of course. But today is a bit different.

You see, he's talking to a plant. The plant is on a metal, rounded picnic table and he brought a tree that appears to be going through autumn and an area of grass with it from whatever planet he was on. But the important part is that he's sitting at the table with a sandwich, eating it and talking to this plant]

You know, you really are brilliant. ...No, really! I mean that. Sane, nice, loves Elvis. Also, you're not violent. You have no idea what a rarity that is these days.

[he shakes his head with a sigh and keeps munching on his sandwich and talking to the plant]

Or sometimes there's odd translations. Putting something into Welsh, for example.

Sometimes, yes. But it's quite rare.

Why Welsh?

Oh, Welsh is strange even for an Earth language. It likes to pop up all over the place.

... Even for an Earth language?

Earth languages are a bit strange, really.

How so?

Ah, well. What I was used to before I ever heard Earth languages was...well, hang on. [reaches into his pocket and pulls out a pen and paper. He doodles some Gallifreyan (http://www.geocities.com/willbswift/gallifrey_2_imagestamps_by_purplerhino.jpg) on it. New!Who style!] That! So, Earth languages are a bit odd.

[Ryotarou looks curiously at the writing.] I see... That is pretty strange, so in reverse...

What does it say?

Hm? Oh, well. They're mostly notes about the TARDIS. This one for example-- [points] --is instructions on how to calibrate the time axis to keep the console room relatively level during flight. Though this one-- [points to a simpler one] --is how to work a dvd player.

[He looks at them a little longer... then shakes his head minutely.] How can it say all that?

The symbols are rather detailed to convey more information. Sometimes I'll have a post it with just one symbol but it will explain my entire list of repairs I need to do for the day.

Quite so! Though there's a few types of Gallifreyan. I once wrote my journal in High Gallifreyan so not many people could read it.

High Gallifreyan?

Mhm, an older version of Gallifreyan. A bit like...Latin is to English, I suppose? Or a better example is high and low German.

Ah... You'd think they would call the newer version 'High', wouldn't you?

You'd think but higher sounds older and ancient and pompous and important and all that.

So it wasn't called that until afterwards?

Nope! Everything from the old times got sort of...well, mythologized. Shrouded in myths and legends and made into fairy tales and nursery rhymes. Now all of it sounds big and important.

Ah... Why? Or.. did it just happen like that?

I suppose we just...lived so long we forgot our own history. Made it into legends to try to remember it. But history was sort of frowned upon in general.
