It's actually a bit disgusting, hearing you lot speak Gallifreyan so primitively. Like chanting off - no, that metaphor's incomprehensible without a background in high mathematics. Fine. Like writing Calculus and finding everyone else doing basic algebra.

[then he changes to Russian - less articulate, of course, but he's comfortable with the language]

This one, though, this one's a bit ironic. Look at me, the Master, the deathless, blathering on in Russian. Haven't been in ages, should probably go back and put a few more legends into the locals.

[sips from his wine, and slips back into Gallifreyan]

At least the people of the city still understand me.

There was a Dalek invasion in my sixth on Gallifrey. It's part of that. Long story.

Tell me about it.

There was a conference on Archetryx between time sensitive beings. I brought Evelyn there. Well, not brought. Sort of got swept in. Anyway, everything was part of the Daleks' plan. They wanted to show off their power, be taken seriously, all that. Of course they used that sort of meeting. That was when Romana escaped from them, too. She was so different when she came back... [frowns, then continues]

They used this device called the Apocalypse Element to destroy the Seriphia galaxy. It only took a few hours. Meanwhile they staged an invasion on Gallifrey because that idiot Vansell couldn't contain his greed-- [oops, bitterness]

We locked down Gallifrey to only answer to Evelyn's retina scan to try to contain the Daleks. They died when the Element backfired, so that worked out, I suppose. We tried to overwrite her retina print from the Eye afterwards but some traces remained.

Evelyn - the older woman, correct?

Mhm. That was her. Very brilliant. I really needed her.

You know, though, I think I've heard a bit about that invasion. Not a lot - I think they kept it as quiet as they could. But even so...

They wrote it off as technical difficulties, really. Not surprised you heard about it, though. It was, well, quite big. Amazing that no one noticed. Unsurprising, actually...

I didn't believe it. Daleks, invading Gallifrey, taking out an entire galaxy? Daleks weren't even known when I was a child, and I was to think they were that powerful? Seemed ridiculous.

Mmm, I met them ages ago. Long time. I've met them at least once, every body.
