2nd Heart - A Moment's Rest

[And here comes Jackie, popping into the Plane and, for a moment, looking rather flustered and perhaps even a little frustrated. In his right hand is a steel fold up chair, and his left hand is just idly twitching by it's own accord. He takes a few steps forward and opens the chair up with a snap, then promptly drops it in front of him. After staring at it for a moment, he sits down and leans forward, taking one long deep breath. Taking a few and holding it in, he leans back and tilts his head upwards, staring straight up and breathes out slowly.]

Better. Much better.

{Smile} That makes it sound like more than a simple business meeting.

[A pause, and then a smile himself.] I don't run a simple business.

{See, that information might disturb most people, but it seems to delight Diva} Ah, is that so? Ne, then what kind of business is it that you run? Well, unless it's a secret, that is. ♥

[Is inwardly taken aback by her delight, but keeps his smile on] You could say it's a family business. Our products aren't that secret, but our involvement usually is.

Family business? {She has to consider for several moments before she comes to the conclusion...} Do you mean like a mafia, maybe? Ah, but the mafia, I suppose they're better in terms of illegal activities. Or at least more amiable and honorable. Meeting with them is always interesting, and I kind of prefer government officials, but I don't exactly get a choice when it comes to who I need to see...

[A long moment of silence, and his smile grows a bit. He's not going to confirm it. However, he does make a point to keep an eye on this one.]

Most government types that I know are scum. Filthy and disgusting. Least, the ones in my world are.

You're name?

Oh, don't get me wrong, the ones in my world have certainly been no better. Though, I must admit, they have been getting better in general. Like during the late 19th century and the early 20th, being corrupt was almost...well, mandatory! But then appearance started to get more important, so they made at least something of an effort to not appear to be so.

{Smiles} Call me Diva.

Long lived, obviously. Though you don't look it. [A moment and a chuckle] I'm not surprised by that, actually.

A mask. That's all it is. Deep down, they're still just a filthy and corrupt as they've always been. And yet, they're heroes to the simple folk.

Diva it is. I'm Jackie.

173, actually. I'm a Chiropteran, after all. Or, rather, a vampire.

{This time she grins and chuckles} That's exactly it! Not many people can see that. Or, at least, they don't want to. Which is probably better for most people, but...Well, that's how it is. Humans, or I guess people in general, they need someone to believe in. Whether it's God or the Fuhrer, it's all the same in that way. ♥

It's nice to meet you, Jackie.

Vampire. So are the claims that you can kill one with wooden stakes to the heart and sunlight true? Or was that all just bullshit?

People. People are stupid. The average person is smart, but when you bunch them all together, they're hopeless and persuadable. As for beliefs? Well, God couldn't give a shit about me, and any old CEO can control Presidents and Kings.

Oh, definitely not true. It'll kill me, but not any differently than a sword through my heart would. I'd just come right back to life! I can go out in the sun, oh, and I love garlic. I think that's all of those. I'm not sure where those ideas even came from, though...

I guess so. But people are important too! Like even if there's a lot of bad, there's always the good too. At least there's that.

You forgot crosses. But at least that clears that up.

[Oooh, hard point for him.] There's always a little light in the darkness.

Oh, right, all that religious nonsense too. Well, no, none of that is true.

{Bright, happy smile} Exactly! Which is why it's not so bad being 'immortal'. Even If I have to live through times that show me that humans are really...vile, there's always the good people that make it better. Especially...Especially coming here. Here, I get to actually meet those people.

Well, that officially put the vampire myths to rest, one and for all.

[He's not really smiling anymore] Those good people...you're lucky to ever meet one.

{She runs a hand through her hair idly} I'd believe it. That's why...Well, that's why I like it here so much. There are a lot of good people here.

[A moment of a silence] I can see that. At least a little bit.

I can definitely see it. After all, when I'm used to people hating me on principle, it's a lot easier to see it, I guess.

I guess...I'm just used to seeing darkness. Maybe I just can't recognize what good is. At least not easily.

{Smiles} Well, it's not hard or anything. Like, the people here are very tolerant, caring, and generous. Or, most of them. There are still some of them that are no good, but! Like even Gene, who can be very rude at times, he can b nice. When he wants to, that is. Ah, but that's a secret. For some reason he wants that to be a secret ♥

Guess this place is better for more than just catching a breather, then.

DCI Gene Hunt. [A dark chuckle, and then he rubs his jaw] We're... acquainted, so don't take it personally if remain skeptical about him being nice.

Oh, it definitely is! Things have been a little strange because people have gone missing, but usually it's quite fun. There are even parties sometimes. People all tend to show up with food a lot, which is kind of disappointing for me.

Oh, I wouldn't take it personally. Gene is very rude. Ah, but after I beat him in a drinking contest, it was a little better! Like he has to call me by my name instead of all those weird words like bird or skirt. {Waves her hand as if to dismiss the thought} But...Well, don't take anything he says personally either. I do like Gene, and I'd prefer he not get hurt, or die again, really.

Parties and buffet and drinking contests. This place really is a strange kind of hamster wheel. And why would their bringing food disappoint you? Can only ingest blood or something along those lines?

He reminds me of a certain someone I used to know. In fact, he doesn't have a whole lot going for him in my favor. And I honestly mean that in the absolute worst way. [A moment of thought]

Between you and me, then. What would happen if someone, I'm not saying who...turned his kneecap into a messy useless lump of flesh?

[And THEN it hits him] And what do you mean by "die again"?

It's fun, though! But, yes, basically. It's not like eating human foods is bad for me, but most of them have no taste at all to me. So I don't eat them unless it's polite to. Like at the dinner socials that Amshel brings me to.

{She laughs} Why, then I would make that person's head the same way, of course~♪

Ah, well, the Twins don't let anyone die here. Or they bring them back to life, anyways.

So why eat if there's no flavor. I get it.

[A grim smile] Of course. [And then a momentary silence] I was going to make a point of thanking him for the introduction he gave me. But I'm going to just forget about it. Out of respect.

Of course they do. [Looks unamused by that] Can't have their hamsters dying on them, now can they.

{Smiles pleasantly} Then thank you! Though I apologize for his behavior. Or, kind of. That's just Gene, probably.

{Unamused as well, but her cheerful tone is gone} I guess not. I prefer not to think of it that way, though.
