[starts with his arm, rubbing it in carefully, almost apologetically]

[biting his lip as he waits, but relaxes somewhat as the Doctor starts, since it's never as bad as you think]

Well, in their defense, they couldn't see it. I think, anyway. I would've thought people would've payed more attention to a - a something getting eaten.

[he moves on to other wounds]

[absently rubbing the fabric of Gene's coat] It's not exactly that. I get a - a static, when I try to think of it. I can't think of it. Those twins said that... it was removed from existence, something like that.

That makes sense, I suppose. If something were to be removed from reality altogether, no memories of it would remain. How they do it, on the other hand...

[he steps back, circles, checking to see if he missed anything]

[his eyes widen, and his lips part as if to speak, but he hesitates] I - no, 'course I would.

You needn't tell me if you don't wish to, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't lie either.

[a faint smile as he stands, voice lighter]

I don't... I don't know. I was hit by a car in 2006. David Bowie was playing on my iPod. And... somehow, I woke up in 1973, in this jacket and these boots, and I... I don't know if I'm in a coma, or mad, or back in time... I don't know if I should care that Gene died when he's just - might be just something I made up... [runs a hand through his hair] I'm sorry. I don't know what happened.

I doubt your world is merely a mental construct, at least completely. Was Gene...killed by someone you've seen on this Plane?
