More screaming, I'd imagine - no, the people in my London didn't seem to notice either.

[he moves on to other wounds]

[absently rubbing the fabric of Gene's coat] It's not exactly that. I get a - a static, when I try to think of it. I can't think of it. Those twins said that... it was removed from existence, something like that.

[he notes the movement, of course, but reacts only to the words, brow furrowing]

That makes sense, I suppose. If something were to be removed from reality altogether, no memories of it would remain. How they do it, on the other hand...

[he steps back, circles, checking to see if he missed anything]

No idea. Maybe someone stuck a needle in the wrong part of my brain.

[satisfied, he goes to retrieve the bandages; he pauses, though, eyebrows raised]

You wouldn't know if they did?

[his eyes widen, and his lips part as if to speak, but he hesitates] I - no, 'course I would.

[he shakes his head as he pulls a thick roll from the kit]

You needn't tell me if you don't wish to, but I'd appreciate it if you didn't lie either.

[a faint smile as he stands, voice lighter]

Or at least do a better job of it than that...

[laughs a little] It's a bit complicated.

[his smile widens as he begins, deftly and gently; the bandages will conform to him and seal themselves]

I'm rather used to 'complicated'.

No, I said that's where I was currently.

I was born on Gallifrey, some 250 million light years away from Earth, outside of Time. That was, for me, over eight hundred years ago.

[right, well, that just blew Sam's mind. But he'll accept it as yet another strange decision on the part of his subconscious]

Uh... I was born in Manchester, 1969. That was thirty seven years ago.

Not quite as intriguing at first glance, but you said you were in the 1970s, yes?

I don't... I don't know. I was hit by a car in 2006. David Bowie was playing on my iPod. And... somehow, I woke up in 1973, in this jacket and these boots, and I... I don't know if I'm in a coma, or mad, or back in time... I don't know if I should care that Gene died when he's just - might be just something I made up... [runs a hand through his hair] I'm sorry. I don't know what happened.

There's no need to apologise, Sam - it sounds dreadfully confusing, even to me.

[a pause]

I doubt your world is merely a mental construct, at least completely. Was Gene...killed by someone you've seen on this Plane?

I realise you can't be certain of that, but it does help me a bit.
