[Menzies appears in the middle of the Plane clearly arriving straight from work. she's in a suit, as well as wearing an ID card hanging from her neck and a belt of police gear around her waist. however, her hair is disheveled and she looks very concerned about something. ignoring her surroundings, she pulls her right arm against her, twisting the fabric of her shirt so see can see the underside of it. she frowns down at a small round scortch mark on her shirt for a moment before she presses against it, still frowning, but showing no sign of pain as she prods at the area]

[after a moment, she lets her arm go and now stares down at her own hands in confusion--as though she expects to find some sort of answer there. she considers silently for a bit, chewing her lip. but eventually she sighs before mumbling to herself:] I wish I had a knife...

[ooc: Menzies' wish has had the accidental side effect of making her invulnerable for a month! Just a warning that if you give her something sharp, she's going to do a little (ultimately harmless) test with it.]

[He takes it back carefully, slipping it into its case.] I don't know. I'm not sure if it has. [He shrugs.] I, uh, had wished for you and South to be happy. In a small way. I didn't know how it'd be done. I just wanted something happy for you both. [He smiles sheepishly.] I know it's sappy, but that's what popped into my mind.

Makes me wonder what you wished for, though.

You what? [her surprise is clear. really, he just keeps seeming too nice to be true today. though she has to admit, with the Plane being what it is, she has a feeling she's lucky that she's not stuck in some artificially happy state after that wish. not that she's going to burst his bubble like that, of course]

Well... [she pauses, not sure what to say exactly. North would make a wish that requires her to attempt to describe her feelings. thoughtfully, she finally says:] I 'aven't seen anything 'appen outside of what I just showed you. But if that's not my wish, well, I suppose you could argue I'm 'appy I 'aven't got a gunshot wound to the arm. So maybe it's yours.

[at that question, she chuckles. she knew he was going to ask, and she's just realised that she's actually a little embarrassed to tell him. but she files that away as a ridiculous emotion and tells him anyway] I wanted to 'elp you stay safe. [she says it quickly, flatly--a statement of fact. it's a little less embarrassing that way] Which, well, I'm sure you can see the connection to invincibility. [her expression sours] But it's not what I 'ad in mind.

I know, I know...it was silly. But...I don't think what's happening to you is mine. At least your arm's okay.

[A smile spreads across his face as he takes her hand.] And here you were giving me grief about mine! [But he really appreciates her wish and leans down to give her a soft kiss.] I'll do my best to help it come true. Thank you. [Gently, he gives her hand a squeeze.]

Then we'll see if anything else comes of it. [she frowns. admittedly, she wishes this were his wish. that way, there would still be hope for her wish having some positive effect on him. but she has a feeling he's right]

[she leans into that kiss and then squeezes his hand back, definitely embarrassed now. but a thought occurs to her then, and she smirks] Wait. You know, all things considered, I might be able to 'elp you with that. If I can't be injured... [she lets the possibility hang in air, clearly eager but not sure how he might react--or rather, having a feeling that he won't react the way she's hoping for]

[Hesitantly] Are you saying...what I think you're saying?

[The thought both excites him and almost fills him with a bit of trepidation, though not because he's concerned about her handling herself in any situation he may find himself in. He's more concerned about the effect wearing off at an inopportune time--and them not knowing until something awful happens.]

[she nods, wishing she could read his expression better. she can't tell for sure whether that reaction is positive or negative, but as he didn't give her an immediate no, she's hopefully optimistic] Yeah, I think I am. So...what do you think? [and she waits to hear what he has to say]

I think... [He trails off, taking a moment to think it through. The mission he needs to go on is just a simple infiltrate and observe situation. The observing will be easy; getting there? Not so much.] You know, why not? If it gets too hairy, we have a way out. But follow my lead, okay? I'll get you some basic armor and a sidearm. You'll stand out too much only wearing civvies.

Armour like yours? [she chuckles] Sure, why not! [she can't help sounding keen, though it's not the armour that she's really excited about. she wasn't expecting him to agree to this--in fact, she's not sure she can believe that he really is going along with it. but she's not going to question a gift horse. she wouldn't want him to change his mind, after all] You do what you need to do to set up, and I'll be 'ere ready to join you. How's that?

[after all, there's no time like the present--not to mention neither of them have any idea how long this Plane effect might last. she wouldn't want to waste it, not when this could be her chance to make her wish do something for him after all]

Not exactly like mine. It's simpler. You'll see. Be back in a few minutes. It'll take a bit to get set up. Just...make sure you're ready. Things are a lot different in the future--a lot different than the movies you have.

[He smiles, touching her arm for a brief moment, then lets his hand slide off before he drops from the Plane to get everything set for the mission.]
