Entrez vous.
[He thought it'd be 'one of those days' when it'd started with the hazy realization that he'd had a horrible nightmare. Worse than the nightmares about Newfoundland. Even worse than the nightmares about England. Perhaps he should have just stayed home, but there's no use regretting.
He stands in the midst of the starfield - the Astral Plane - and after carefully looking around him reaches into his pocket for his phone. As expected there is no signal, but it still seems to be working otherwise. He dearly would like to know if America has found his way here as well, but he resists the urge to call despite no bars, or to call out. With a wan smile he huffs softly to himself.]
It's not like I need him to sort this for me.
[Pocketing the phone again he looks up to see an information kiosk has appeared not too far away. He approaches it, eager to know more about this place. When prompted by the sign he speaks up,]
Help, please. [Although it is all automated, it doesn't hurt to be polite.]
[He reads Broderick Naismith's brochure twice, then folds it up and places it in his jacket pocket. He tilts his head thoughtfully as he speaks softly to himself- a habit he will tell you helps him organize his thoughts.]
I like experiments well enough, but not so much being in them. Still, it would be rather interesting to meet people from other worlds... Science fiction has become reality. [He pauses for a long moment as his mind wanders through the possibilities.] There would be so much I could learn. And seeing as time has stopped back home – or I will be returned to the same time – there are no worries about something happening there... It wouldn't be good for me to be away from home for long though, no matter the time shenanigans going on.
Yes. Then, let's see who I can find.

Super late comment go!
Hey, how's it going?
Yay!
As well as can be expected so far, I think. [He makes a slight gesture to the information booth behind him.] It's pretty clear that I'm new, eh?
no subject
[North chuckles and nods.] Yeah. Everyone gets that wide-eyed, somewhat bewildered look when they get here, even after reading the stuff that booth gives us. I'm North, by the way. [He holds out his gloved hand.]
no subject
Canada's smile deepens a touch at the name. He can't help but feel an affinity for it, although he's getting the feeling that North may be American. He takes the offered hand in a firm grip, giving him a diplomatically perfect hand shake.]
A pleasure to meet you, North. I'm Canada.
no subject
Same here. So, "Canada", huh? Not "Alberta" or "Ontario" or anything?
no subject
No, afraid not. My name really is Canada.

Instead, he will pick up on that last comment.]
Is that so? I hope you might get the chance to visit again sometime. If I may, what part of America are you from?
[Despite his intuition, it still feels like a bit of a stab in the dark, given that he doesn't recognize the armor at all. (Surely America would have bragged about something like that to him.)]
no subject
[His own accent will label him as American for a long time to come, but he's still not comfortable telling people certain parts of his life. Even with Patricia, he won't say what his real name is.] Kind of from all over, actually. We moved around a fair bit when I was a kid--[this may be a lie]--but now I don't live there any longer. Haven't been stationed on Earth in some years.
no subject
[He follows all of that next part up until "on Earth". At which he blinks in confused startlement. Had he heard that right? (Never mind that he's standing in Sci-Fi central right now, but it's taking some time for him to wrap his mind around it.)]
Sorry, but, if you aren't stationed on Earth, where are you stationed?
no subject
[North notices that look and chuckles] Hah, sorry about that. I forget that some places don't have travel to outer space yet. I'm stationed on a ship that orbits Earth and different colonies depending on where we're needed.
no subject
[There is lots there to pique his interest in that statement, but he can't help but ask about colonies first!]
Well, travel to space is one thing, but colonies-! If I may ask, whose- that is, which countries' are they?
no subject
Actually, we just consider them Earth colonies. A long time ago, sure, people claimed land in name of America, China, and Russia, but we've come a long way since then. The countries are united under the Unified Earth Government, but a branch of called the United Nations Space Command, or UNSC for short, has pretty much taken over for the time being because of the war we're in.
no subject
It sounds like your 'long time ago' is my present day. I'm glad to hear about the unification, but... it's a shame that you are at war. [He can't help a crestfallen tone at that. Sometimes it feels like the life of a nation is only battles.
Breaking out of that train of thought, he smiles slightly in apology.]
Sorry. I admit I'm curious about you and your Earth, but I do not want to trouble you with my questions...

That sounds like a very good idea, thank you. Things always go down easier with a glass of wine, I think. [He grins and makes a slight gesture at the star plane.] Not to mention I would be appreciative of a practical demonstration in how to get anywhere here.
no subject
But come on, I'll show you where the bar is. [He gestures for Canada to follow, and heads off to the bar. It isn't too far away from there.]
no subject
[He peers down at the floor critically before following North.]
I hope there's no sudden stairs or holes to fall into. You'd probably not be able to see it coming.
no subject
[North takes a few steps, then turns when he doesn't hear (or see on his motion tracker) Canada moving behind him.] Trust me, it's okay. I haven't found any hidden stairs or holes. In fact, the only hole around here is a black hole and it's pretty well advertised ahead of time. You'll be just fine.
no subject
[His steps forward with more confidence, but it's still going to get some serious taking used to.]
A black hole, eh? I'm thinking a few bottles of the very finest will be needed to even get through a fraction of what's going on around here.
[Not that he'd get horribly drunk on even that much. Which is good- he'll be needing a clear head here.]
no subject
Actually, you'll get used to a lot of the weird things around here, but don't get too comfortable. It can get pretty dangerous as well. A handful of months ago, we were all brought here and were robbed of our memories for a couple weeks. No one knew who anyone else was.
no subject
Lose his memory? It was unthinkable!]
That sounds rather terrifying. ...Did you find out who did the robbing?
no subject
Are you doing okay learning about all this?
no subject
He lifts his eyes to smile reassuringly at North though, consciously trying to banish the dark expression from his face.]
Better that I learn it from you than the hard way. I didn't know what I was stepping into when I came through that door, but now that I'm here, information like this will be essential.
no subject
It's a lot at once, but you'll be better prepared in case anything happens to you down the road from now. And...it isn't all bad. I've gotten to meet some very great and kind people here.
[Oh hey, they're finally at the bar! North holds the door open for Canada to head on in.]
