[The little cat, meanwhile, has wandered up during the talk and been sitting next to Hei's foot for a while now, dabbing absently at his laces.]

You know, Bee-Kay, you shouldn't collar the wild ones. They don't take to it well when they wake up.

[frown of confusion] Bee-Kay?

[frown of, "hrm, am I bovvered?"] Sounds like the start of a fast-food order.

[Calmly, to Sam,] She seems to have a thing for nicknames, though I'm not sure how she comes up with them.

Bee-Kay-Nee, Maru-Ich-EE! [On the "Ee" she leaps at one of the star formations suspended beneath the Plane.]

I told you, Nancylocks, the stars!

[crouches down beside kitty] Li's awfully fond of the stars, yeah.

[looks up at Hei] I'll avoid mentioning you, by the way.

[Crouches down as well, his eyes on the kitty.] Do all kitties talk the way you do, Cy, or are you just special?

[Nods a thanks. Then he remembers something.] Ah, I don't know if you've met her yet, but you might also want to look out for a woman named Diva. [Glances at Cy.] That goes for both of you.

It's my specialty, Bee-Kay. [Tries to climb up Sam's knee.] Wotcher, Nancylocks. You've got to love your brothers.

[Sing-songing.] Divinity makes a mouthful of me.

[helps Cy up] Oh look, it's the second coming of Christ.

[looks up at Hei, and then groans] God, Diva. She hasn't done anything, has she? I told her not to hurt anyone.

[Smirks.] I wonder if "Satan" wouldn't be more accurate.

So you know her? [Pauses, and then sighs heavily.] It's partly my fault. I should have been more careful.

[Balances herself on Sam's knee with unusual delicacy, giving Hei a disdainful kitty face.] Satan's eyes glow in the dark. He plays with white fire. That ain't me, Bee-Kay.

[didorothy]

I do. I've been trying to help her. She's not like the Masters, Li. She can be a good person. It's just... going to take work.

[pets kitty] What sort of white fire does Li play with?

[Goes quiet for a moment at Cy's comment. Being compared to Satan kind of has that effect D:] No, I suppose it isn't. Sorry if I offended you.

[Looks at Sam again.] I know she can. But she can't change what she needs. It's not good or bad, it's just how it is. And it just means the rest of us need to be careful.

[Slow smile.] I was taught not to play with matches.

[Slides down Sam's leg and wedges herself in the space between his thigh and stomach.] You don't need matches, and we both know it, Bee-Kay.

[Starts purring.]

[knows to listen to the cat by now] White fire without matches? How do you do that, Li?

[And Hei does the thing where he shuts up and says nothing.]

[Goes on purring cheerfully. She has made her point. You do not displease the kitty.]

[talking to kitty. Saner than Sam's usual conversation partners, yes] Well that, to me, looks like it's another of Li's secrets.

[Dryly,] I suppose I should also know better than to upset the talking, psychic cat.

[Isn't looking at Sam.] Secrets are kept for a reason, Mr. Tyler.

That's a very flattering assessment, Cy. [going to have so much kitty-hair on his clothing] Or maybe it isn't.

[Hei gets to his feet, wanting to leave before this conversation can get any worse.]

Oi! [Stands up suddenly in her confined little nook, shoving against Sam's stomach and mimicking his voice.] Why don't you trust him, Bee-Kay?
