[when Menzies appears on the Plane, she looks far calmer than the last time. and not only has she regained her composure, but she is no longer wearing gloves. for those who know her, she looks like her normal self again--right down to seeming a bit exasperated. but that's okay because this time, she's at the bar]
[she sighs, musing to herself] You know, somehow I didn't miss the paperwork. [pouring a pint, she takes a seat] Or the DCI. [she smiles wryly] Still, nice to get back to the usual sort of cases. Robbery, a bloke's wife beat up his girlfriend, one of the Trigillans caused another road accident by shorting a car's electrical system...
And yet, somehow, here I am. [she pauses to take a long drink--but then she turns, realising there's someone else at the bar with her. she sets her glass down] And it looks like I'm not alone. Please tell me this isn't a sign that there's something new and exciting happening around here. Because if it is? I'm going back to the paperwork and the Trigillans.

And you? Does the benefit of experience feed your mind with anything in special?
no subject
But if you're really curious about what this place gets up to, I guess you could say I've got all day.
no subject
I can see why you wouldn't want to deal with all this for a while. I hadn't thought of this place as a way to get solace though.
[He takes a sip of his drink. Is he really curious? Actually he is, part of him is at least, deep down, fighting the part that insists in no caring, in getting out of here and not returning ever.]
I'm not in any hurry either.

I've mostly been here for the disappearances and the candy. And...no, you know, what? We might have time to waste, but I wouldn't want to bore you. Maybe you should start me off with what you already know, and I'll fill in the gaps from there.
no subject
[If that was on the guide his mind quite obviously flew over it. He hums for a second and nods.]
That sounds like a useful thing to me as well.
[At least he doesn't have to worry about being too late or whatever.]
I heard about the candy making people act strange, violently. And that the disappearances leaded to the bodies being found, murdered and with a hand missing. And that it happened in more than one world.
no subject
It wasn't violence, exactly--well, it was for most people. But it was really acting on their fears. [she makes a face, remembering her own experience] I'm not sure if that's better or worse.
[she sighs] It happened on a lot of worlds--including four people from my city. And about the only lead we've got is that something here did it--and probably a something with very large teeth. It's not exactly a lot to go on. Not in a place like this.
no subject
[At least it counts as good news, maybe the only ones one can get here.]
Acting on their fears? You mean as if they thought they were surrounded by whatever they feared the most? Like trapped in a nightmare?
[It still sounds dangerous anyway and something he doesn't want to go through. To have his mind altered, to not have control over himself or be fooled into doing something, those are things he prefers to never experience. Again at least.]
Doesn't sound like it... How can you be sure it's something from here and not from another world that uses the Plane as a hallway to other worlds?
[The fact that the Plane seems to be involved is undeniable anyway.]
no subject
Uh-uh. [she shakes her head] More like, you became what you fear the most. So if you're afraid of hurting other people, guess what? Suddenly, people are setting things on fire. Or going about trying to shoot people. [her expression is dark. she still wishes they could have done more to stop it sooner--and that she could have done something herself]
Nah, it's too organised for that. And as far as I know, the only way to get to other worlds is through the person from them. I think we'd have noticed if somebody was using us all as a taxi service.
[but she pauses thoughtfully, thinking of Ray. he's not from the Plane, per se, but he's certainly connected to it] If anything, it came from some other world to begin with, but wherever it's from, it's definitely something to do with the people running this place. Nothing else fits.

[It may be attached to the fact that when he wishes to return home, a small part of him worries about his reality having been affected by this place already and thus he ends thinking more about here than his reality. The fact that he was in the middle of a time travel doesn't help to picture where he has to return to.]
... I see. And of course that causes problems to everyone even after that wears off, I suppose.
[Becoming what he fears the most... That's not so terrible, actually. But it may be because he already did so in the past.]
Unless whatever did it was invisible. Or there are actually other ways for it... Specially if it has any relation to those guys apparently in charge of here.
no subject
For most people, yeah. Not all of us were turned into raging maniacs, but I think most of the affected people were. [she hasn't decided yet whether that means she was lucky or not. she still has to live with the consequences of what happened, but at least she was able to stay well clear of people after she figured out what was going on]
[she considers that] Not likely. I've got experience with invisible--invisible still makes noise. Unless it had a way to keep itself from being noticed... [she frowns. okay, so maybe it is possible that the thing's using them as a taxi service, as unsettling as that thought is. she sighs] All right, you've got a point. But even if it is using us to get to our worlds, seems more likely it's because it's connected to this place than that it just happens to have the perfect abilities. Someone in charge knows something; they just don't want to share it.
no subject
He merely hums in answer regarding the next subject though. He really has nothing to add or say.]
That seems to be the case. Then again it's hard to know if it's happening in worlds that don't have people from them walking around here, isn't it?
The people in charge always know something, after all, let's not forget we're guinea pigs. Have you ever met someone working with guinea pigs that has things happen to them without them knowing exactly what's going on or why?
no subject
I don't see them getting much out of taking people from worlds we aren't part of. Like you said--we're guinea pigs. Whatever this is, it's for us. But there's more of a plan than that. Cutting off the right hand--that's symbolic. They're sending us a message.
no subject
That or making a strange collection. The message seems the most likely to give some logic to the attacks.
no subject
[she snorts] And what sort of logic is that, do you reckon?
