[when Menzies appears on the Plane, she looks far calmer than the last time. and not only has she regained her composure, but she is no longer wearing gloves. for those who know her, she looks like her normal self again--right down to seeming a bit exasperated. but that's okay because this time, she's at the bar]

[she sighs, musing to herself] You know, somehow I didn't miss the paperwork. [pouring a pint, she takes a seat] Or the DCI. [she smiles wryly] Still, nice to get back to the usual sort of cases. Robbery, a bloke's wife beat up his girlfriend, one of the Trigillans caused another road accident by shorting a car's electrical system...

And yet, somehow, here I am. [she pauses to take a long drink--but then she turns, realising there's someone else at the bar with her. she sets her glass down] And it looks like I'm not alone. Please tell me this isn't a sign that there's something new and exciting happening around here. Because if it is? I'm going back to the paperwork and the Trigillans.

I'm afraid I don't know, but there were no needle pricks or any irritation on their skin; if there was a drug, it was administered orally. However, it seems there was nothing in their stomachs, either.

A'right, thanks. One more thing--was anyone able to tell what was used on their hands?

Not specifically, but whatever it was, it was sharp. The cuts are too clean for someone to have hacked them off.

[she nods grimly] I've heard it was a tooth. Thanks for the info, Mu.

To take a hand off so cleanly, it would have had to have been an impressively large one.

Chilling, isn't it? And just think, if it got to people from all our worlds, it must be around here somewhere. [she takes another drink]

Hmm...

[Mu looks thoughtful, then] Not long after I first came here - almost four years ago now, the Twins let loose a small army of reality-devouring monsters. They were easially subdued, but several of them were more than large enough to take off one's hand...

But they were brutes. This is far too methodical.

[Menzies frowns, also thoughtful] Then maybe someone's pulling one of their strings this time. There's no evidence the monster did the kidnapping in the first place--the only thing it did for sure was the attack.

Then why only the hand? I'd imagine creatures that large requrie far more than just that.

Well, I didn't say someone wasn't pulling their strings for that, too. Unless you'd rather we start imagining intelligent giants with huge teeth.

I'd rather assume the former, in that case.

A wise choice. Now it's just a matter of what we're going to do about it. What else do you know about those monsters?

Nothing else of import, I'm afraid. Those memories are four years old, after all.

[she makes a face] Then I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. My favourite. [she takes another drink]

Likewise. I simply cannot wait.

[curious] Yeah? Got something eating at you?

There is someone who has access to this place that I must protect at all costs. A lack of answers makes my job that much more difficult.

[she makes a face. there's always something more to worry about around here, isn't there?] And I take it this isn't the sort of person you can just convince to not to come here at all?

Not with her force of will no.

[she knows people like that. well, she is one of them, but she can feel Mu's pain as well] Sounds like you've got your work cut out for you, then. Good luck with that.

So, just in case I happen to run into her, what's this important person look like?

She's somewhat petite, green-eyed and with hair something of a similar colour to mine. Her name is Sasha, but she is the incarnation of the Goddess Athena, and will respond to that, as well.

[she raises an eyebrow] You're seriously telling me she's a Greek goddess?

Does it surprise you?

I suppose knowing this place, it shouldn't. But real gods! Can't say I've run into that one before.
