[currently, the Doctor is crawling on the floor in the entrance of the ballroom, occasionally stopping to look and feel under the couches for something. he doesn't show it, but he's been rather shaken up--and he certainly is not happy]

Come on out! I know you're here somewhere. You've got to be! I felt you before you--[he pauses, his hand suddenly darting under a plush chair]--did whatever you did a few moments ago.

Well, to be fair, I only assumed you were. The Emil I know is the nervous one; "Alex", as I've called him, is the one losing all those memories in addition to being the one I made the recording with; and the third one, you, was supposed to be Ratatosk. That's what my other self had said, and I'd never lie to myself. [well, not usually, but that seventh incarnation of his is a bit of a wildcard there...]

... I think I'm the same as Emil. When he consciously draws upon the powers granted by Ratatosk to fight, that's when I appear. We share memories between us but lately he's been lagging behind.

[He struggles a little bit more, staring down at his fist.]

Maybe I'm a fake personality, too. I might disappear with him. I don't know.

Exactly, you don't know--but you came from somewhere. [pauses] Out of curiosity, you wouldn't happen to have a star-shaped birthmark, would you?

[Emil blinks, then nods.] Yeah, right above my collarbone.

He might not want to. Or perhaps you don't and don't even realise you're keeping the information from him.

[he sighs, rubbing the back of his neck] I was hoping it'd be different. Don't know why. It wasn't different for the other two.

Like I really have that sort of power. If I did, I'd make him forget everything you ever told him. He's even more pathetic than usual!

[rolls his eyes] I didn't think it would, but I've seen stranger.

When he got the idea that he's fake. That maybe both of us are fake. That maybe he doesn't even deserve to live. That kind of thinking just pisses me off! We have a mission to do and if he doesn't keep it together then I'll finish it!

It didn't start with you. It started with that bastard, Crane. He gave me that news and then he pumped me full of something that made me kill people. So that wasn't exactly the best way to negotiate the idea I might be Aster.

[He rubs at his temples.] Something's off...

[he frowns, taking all that in. nice to know it truly wasn't any of his selves that triggered it, and Crane has been brought up before, but that other name--!] Aster?! That's the third one's name, isn't it? He mentioned it starting with an 'A' and I certainly was very off with my nickname, but this is great! I can tell him now. It can be something he can get--[he stops, an eyebrow quirking upwards] Off? Oh, erm...[he looks a bit sheepish] That might be my doing, actually.

[Emil goes completely silent, but the look on his face is unmistakably /sad/. He looks away after a moment.]

... yeah, that's the dead guy. The one everyone thinks I am.
