[currently, the Doctor is crawling on the floor in the entrance of the ballroom, occasionally stopping to look and feel under the couches for something. he doesn't show it, but he's been rather shaken up--and he certainly is not happy]

Come on out! I know you're here somewhere. You've got to be! I felt you before you--[he pauses, his hand suddenly darting under a plush chair]--did whatever you did a few moments ago.

[he smiles] I don't really have a choice right now, but what I said just now is the absolute truth. ...And so was that! Thanks for the compliment, by the way--and yes, I'm taking it all as a compliment, even the idiot part because by virtue of the 'very intelligent' comment, it overrules it and I'm still damn clever!

[a pause] That really isn't helping. You've got to admit, though, it is interesting what's going on. We must have made the same choice.

Oh, I hate the truth. [she laughs] And that must be the truth as well. Isn't that fantastic? I prefer denial to - ugh, we make absolutely rubbish choices.

[he chuckles; softly] They weren't all bad. I'm glad you travelled with me.

And I can't even accuse you of lying just so I can pretend that your words don't mean as much to me as they - oh, this is going to be an absolute misery, isn't it?

Nope! [he grins cheekily] I can't take them back either, not that I'd want to. And, well, I wouldn't say "absolute misery". Close to, maybe, but more like a temporary unpleasantness that, if we're not careful, could turn us against one another--or at least leave one of us with an awful lot of bruises, namely me.

You absolutely deserve it, except you don't, since half the time I think you're not even aware of what an idiot you're being. So, any ideas on how to fix this before I hurt you even further?

Well! For starters, I think we need to stay away from topics that incite a certain emotion in us. Well, not just one.

We need to learn to not say obnoxious things, too. Honestly, no pun intended, how did you expect me to react to something like that?

[quickly] Also, let's agree that we can retain the right to remain silent if it fits us.

I wasn't expecting anything, really. I'm a bit rude in this incarnation and really, I can't help it.

You do realise if we agree to that, we might not end up saying anything at all. Of course, we could always switch to Delphon, but I can't remember how up you are on that or if I taught you at all.

I have heard the older people get the ruder they become as well.

[she smiles] You know, I can't quite recall if you have either. You can try teaching me again. It would be a safe activity I think, considering how limited and painful our conversation might become without a distraction.

[frowns] You should've seen me in a couple other incarnations.

Of course, there is catching a film, but we'd have to dodge those hands every now and--Benny, watch out! [he grabs her suddenly, pulling her towards him as he spins away from the spot he stood in. he glances back over his shoulder, catching sight of one of the hands skittering away, deprived of its prey]

[she looks at the Doctor holding onto her, then looks back past the Doctor's shoulder at the hand skittering away, then back up at the Doctor again.] I would usually make some comment asking if you were quite sure you're not a pervert, but since I don't seem capable of doing that at the moment, I'll just say thank you.

And I'll say you're welcome, even though I was very nearly insulted there. [lets her go] Maybe we ought to go somewhere without them. That might be a bit nicer. Somewhere safe and quiet to work on our eyebrow movement.

[she laughs despite herself] You might actually have a good idea. All right then, where do you suggest, Doctor?

[he smiles] Well, let's see what's out there. The kitchen could be a safe bet, or the bar and onsen. Which do you feel like?

[she takes his arm, even if he hasn't offered] Oh, why not.
