[currently, the Doctor is crawling on the floor in the entrance of the ballroom, occasionally stopping to look and feel under the couches for something. he doesn't show it, but he's been rather shaken up--and he certainly is not happy]

Come on out! I know you're here somewhere. You've got to be! I felt you before you--[he pauses, his hand suddenly darting under a plush chair]--did whatever you did a few moments ago.

What? Don't be ridiculous! I've never thought you were stupid. [actually, he always quite enjoyed the misheard words]

[he smiles warmly] Of course you are. Always have been. Time doesn't ever change that.

I'm glad to know that. [Jamie smiles back, then realizes something's odd here.]

Hey! I'd not meant to say that out loud, but I did. Doctor, what's going on?

No...I can bet you didn't. [a pause] Jamie, I had to make a choice recently--very recently, in fact--and I'm fairly certain what's happening is a result.

[bonnypiperlad]

So this choice you made...is it making everyone say what they wouldn't normally say, or is it just me?

[bit_impossible]

No, it wasn't like that. I had the choice between the truth and the lies, and I chose truth. Well, if people wouldn't normally tell the truth, then I suppose you are right.

You haven't had to make a choice recently, have you Jamie?

[bonnypiperlad]

No. Are ye sure it's working right? I'd not wanted to say some of the things that I said, but it felt like I had to.

[He frowns briefly.] And before ye ask, it's not that I wanted to lie to ye. I just wanted to keep some of my thoughts to myself.

[bit_impossible]

No, no, I get that; I know I do as well. But you've got to understand that this isn't something I can check with my sonic screwdriver. I can't turn it off or on, either. [and the thought of having an on/off switch is a bit weird to him]

But I'm glad you haven't had to make a choice yet, even if it is just something like this. You could be asked to choose between any number of things. Maybe even life and death itself.

[bonnypiperlad]

You can't? That's not good, Doctor. What if someone gets upset and tries to hurt ye when they realize it?

[He agrees whole-heartedly with the Doctor's next words, and nods rather fervently.] Aye. I'd not want to have to choose between those two. I'm not sure I'd want to choose anything at all, if ye must know.

Then, it's something I'll have to deal with when the time comes. I'm a fantastic runner, you know. Even better than before. [grins]

Well...normally, I'd say you've always got a choice, even the choice not to choose, but...not this time. I was snatched from the Plane and found myself in a small room with a computer screen and armchair--and not a particularly comfortable one, either. If I didn't choose, I'd probably be still there now.

[bonnypiperlad]

[dryly] Aye, well, I suppose those legs of yours are long enough now for it.

[There's a frown that develops, though, when he hears that.] So they're forcing ye into it, then. I don't like it, Doctor.

No, neither do I. But I've got a feeling about why they are, and it makes me wonder why they waited so long to do anything.

[bonnypiperlad]

Waited so long? What do ye think it is, then?

[bit_impossible]

Not a 'what', but a 'who'. Whoever is behind this has got to be the same person behind Weber and King Big'un. [he pauses briefly] Pestilence.

[bonnypiperlad]

[He hadn't thought of that, but it makes sense. Too much sense, and his lips press together in a rather displeased sort of way. If that's the case, though, Jamie has an idea about why it took so long for Pestilence took so long to make another move.]

Maybe it was because he wanted to make us think we were safe. Have us let our guard down.
