just a twinge of cosmic angst.

[Time Lords do not have Bad Days. At least, they do, but they tend to come in cosmic angst - planets burning, companions dying, an entire universe collapsing, etc.

Maybe it's a backlash of her time trying to be dull and ordinary, but the Doctor has had a bad day. You can tell by the way she walks in a little dizzily, dripping with some substance that isn't quite water, and the bandage on her nose, and the bruise along her cheek directly to the right of that, and the way she aims herself for the nearest couch and flops onto it stomach-first. And Chesterton - we did mention Chesterton, didn't we? - follows along, looking considerably better-groomed than she, and proceeds to lick her hand, whining intermittently. HE HAS A GOOD PLAN TO MAKE HER DAY BETTER, come help him.]

[If she's too distracted to look around her, then she might not notice Emil, who was one of the people to save her from the death match, approaching! He seems to be minding his own business but when he sees the border collie he can't resist.

He makes a few doggy noises (soft barks/yips) in Chesterton's direction, trying to get him to come over.

... What? He talks to animals all the time! He also makes pacts with them. And, you know, he's got the power of the lord of all monsters under his belt.]

[Well, fine. Emil will walk over then, and just... stand in front of the couch with his hands on his hips.]

Hey, you're not dead. [Fake surprise, there.] Don't you ever feed him?

[identity profile] pactum.livejournal.com 2010-09-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Clearly.]

You might not be a human, but you're still being pretty stupid. The dog is trying to get you to feel better and you're ignoring him. He's only going to get more upset.

[He drops to a crouch and reaches out to let the puppy sniff his hand.]

Whatever is going on, you should let go of it for now. It's not healthy for you or for your companion.

[Awww, cute.

Emil shuts up after that and starts to walk away. HIS JOB HERE IS DONE.]

[Chesterton, you underestimate the value of tea. A cup of tea has somehow found its way into the Doctor's hand, and this cup of tea is attached to the hand of the Braxiatel that has somehow found his way in front of the Doctor. We could infer that Braxiatel is giving the Doctor tea.]

[Braxiatel looks down at Chesterton, who is much more pleasant company, thanks lots, and reaches down to pet the dog] I know, I know. But we do our best, don't we?

[Yes, he's consoling the dog about how difficult it can be to help Displeased people.]

Did you? I couldn't be sure.

Then I suspect you have not been around enough people who have had long days.

I didn't realize you could have days that didn't involve explosions and loud noises, Thete.

[Brax offers a dog treats to Chesterton. It isn't entirely clear why he had one.]

[trying to think of which old acquaintances of the Doctor's carry bricks around in their purse]

You haven't walked into the set of 101 Dalmations, have you?

[With dread:]

Don't tell me you had a date.

But Chesterton, I only have treats for you.

[Oh, sorry, Doctor, are you still here? Brax is engaging in a conversation with your dog. Either he is very good at understanding dog-language or he's bluffing and well.]

[Brax ruffles Chesterton's head, then vanishes. He returns a little later with a small cube. He sets it down on the table, edges his way into the sofa the Doctor is sitting on (LEARN TO SHARE!), and hits a button on the cube. A screen immediately pops up in front of them, counting down to the start of their film.]

[Braxiatel seems to consider this all amusing and he fondly pets Chesterton, apparently unconcerned by the Doctor's distress. (He would have offered to be a footrest, but Chesterton claimed him as a head rest, first!)]
