[There is a Doctor wandering the snow-covered hills on the Plane again. He's actually without his leather jacket, simply wearing a black jumper and trousers. He scans the air with his screwdriver, frowning, before bending down to scoop up some snow]

All this heat and humidity beats the ice caves on Raxacoricofallapatorius. But it's wrong. This snow ought to be melting. [he pockets the screwdriver, before packing the snow into a ball and tossing it between his hands] Wonder if it'll melt with the storm -- there's got to be one soon, the weather's perfect for it.

[pauses] Perfect if you're on Earth, anyway. Of all the planets in all the universes to choose from, why'd the Machine pick Earth for a weather simulation?

[ooc: Nine has been canon-bumped to the end of Boom Town!]

[an eyebrow arches high on his face. as a result, he wordlessly scoops up another handful of snow, moulds it, and then chucks it nice and fast at Nine's head where it shouldn't miss. his aim isthat good, damnit.]

[gdi Ten. Fortunately, we'll say Nine has not yet been pummeled by the Master, but he HAS been punched in the face by Ratatosk. So he is going to glare at you, because ow. :|] Oi, watch the face!

Sorry, I thought you could do with something cold for that lovely bruise on your face. [he says without a hint of remorse and a pretty smug smile on his face] How did you get that anyway?

You're not sorry at all. [sulks] And I got it from Ratatosk. Woke him up when I was having a chat with Emil.

That's what you get for saying my aim's rubbish.

But hold on, "Ratatosk"? As in the squirrel in the old norse mythology? The one who ran up and down the Yggdrasil?

[laughs] More like the squirrel in Emil's brain who's got anger management issues and stuck a sword in my gut once.

[scratches his chin] Is that how you died the first time? Blimey, you've had some luck here, haven't you?

That does, however, confirm one thing. That it isn't just Emil and that other nameless personality inside him. What can you tell me about this other aspect? I've got a video I need to show to Emil--proper Emil, I mean.

[shakes his head] No, Omega saved my life. ...'Course, he was also how I died the first time.

[oh yay, an excuse not to talk about that] Ratatosk's supposedly "protecting" Emil. He shows up when something's too tough for him to deal with, whether it's real monsters or emotional ones, I think. He popped up when I told Emil about his other personality -- said "something bad" would happen if Emil figured things out.

[oh ho, he thinks he's getting out of that? yeah right.] He--what?! Ohhh, I'm sure there's a long and very interesting story there, but you can explain that to me over lunch--or dinner. Whichever one.

[he frowns, his eyebrows knitting together] So...he just randomly took over? Or did you say something that brought him out? But how hasn't he figured it out yet? He's got mates; surely they've had to meet his other personalities before.

[:|] It's not that interesting, honest. 'Sides, I'd hate to spoil your appetite -- you need all the food you can get.

[shakes his head] He came out when I tried to explain to him about split personalities...I got him to trust me, but then he went all quiet, and Ratatosk hit me in the face.

Emil seemed to know about him, though...called it "Ratatosk Mode." But he thought the other personality had been an experiment, or something Crane did to him the last time it came out. [thoughtfully] Ratatosk said they had an agreement -- he would take care of the monsters while Emil took care of Marta. Dunno what that's got to do with personality number three, though.

[folds his arms over his chest quite defiantly] I'm fine enough as I am--and don't think I've forgotten how skinny you, erm, are. [never mind the little detail about being even skinnier than his ninth self...]

That third one--named him "Alex", by the way--didn't say a thing about Ratatosk, but whether that was deliberate or not, well, only he knows for certain. But the odd thing is...Alex can remember general ideas about the things that matter to him and Emil, but it sounds like he loses more and more as time goes on--or rather every time he comes to the forefront, I'm wagering.

Oi, I eat plenty! Last thing I ordered was a steak and chips. [of course, he hadn't actually eaten much of it, considering he'd been rudely interrupted by Trouble]

That sounds about right...Emil told me he doesn't remember stuff in Ratatosk Mode sometimes, either. And Ratatosk said Emil would only be ready to face all this when they've collected the "Cores."

[gives Nine a look that says, "Sure, but did you actually eat it?"--or in other words, he doesn't buy it]

Cores? Cores of what? I don't suppose there was a number attached to these "cores" either, was there?

[ignores that look, lalala] He says each Core wakes up a Centurion, who controls the monsters and the flow of mana on their world. Without waking them all up, their world will die. And there are nine of them. One for each kind of mana and Ratatosk, who rules over the Centurions.

He said that one was being kept in a safe place...I think it's him, Doctor. Emil told me ages ago about becoming a Knight of Ratatosk, and that's when he started becoming a different person -- whenever he got angry or went into battle. Ratatosk Mode, he calls it.

[arches an eyebrow] He wouldn't happen to turn green and get all bulky when he's angry as well, does he?
