[There is a Doctor wandering the snow-covered hills on the Plane again. He's actually without his leather jacket, simply wearing a black jumper and trousers. He scans the air with his screwdriver, frowning, before bending down to scoop up some snow]

All this heat and humidity beats the ice caves on Raxacoricofallapatorius. But it's wrong. This snow ought to be melting. [he pockets the screwdriver, before packing the snow into a ball and tossing it between his hands] Wonder if it'll melt with the storm -- there's got to be one soon, the weather's perfect for it.

[pauses] Perfect if you're on Earth, anyway. Of all the planets in all the universes to choose from, why'd the Machine pick Earth for a weather simulation?

[ooc: Nine has been canon-bumped to the end of Boom Town!]

[sits up from where he was making a snow angel. oops, Doctor, didn't hear you coming!]

Because Earth is great! [gets to his feet, waving to the Doctor]

Or probably for the same reason so many people on the Plane are from Earth? Versions of it, anyway...

[waves back, grinning] If there's any sort of logic involved with the Machine, that would make sense. The second bit, anyway -- doubt it cares much how fantastic Earth is.

[hurries over to him--after carefully side-stepping his angel. wouldn't want to ruin it] What, you think a Machine could really run with no logic at all?

[shrugs] Has anything it's done made any sense to you?

[considers that] Well. It knows how to make nice scenery.

Might be pretty, but even the scenery's wrong. Snow that doesn't melt when it gets warm, stars in the wrong order, a black hole that isn't a black hole -- hang on a mo'. D'you think that's where the weather's coming from?

[grins--he noticed something!] Didja see where the clouds started gathering?

[beams] Nope! Gonna show me?

Either that or I'll give you three guesses.

As if I'd need three to figure it out -- you've already given it away!

Well, it might've saved us a walk! ...unless you want to take a look for yourself. [he has a feeling he knows what the Doctor's going to say to that]

Wouldn't have asked if I didn't.

[shakes his head, smiling in amusement. so predictable, Doctor] Then we'd better start heading over there.

Hang on a mo'. [he drops off the Plane, returning a moment later with his jacket on] Right, lead the way!

[well, that's new. Four always seemed to have a thing about leading. after a blink, Oliver shakes his head and turns with a smile, starting for the black hole. also, he can't resist, seeing as the Doctor was just in the snow] Colder that side of the Plane, huh?

[the Doctor just gives Oliver a Look] Hush, I was only testing things.

[raises an eyebrow] Like what?

[:|] Like temperature and humidity and stuff. Now stop your nagging and let's go have a look at those clouds.

[smiles, amused] I'm going, I'm going!

[rolls his eyes, following Oliver to the black hole. and staring.] Fantastic.

What, the rainclouds?

Yes! Dunno if they're forming over the black hole on purpose, but if they are, it's got to do with that energy barrier.

[his stomach just dropped at that suggestion] ...why do you think that?

[thoughtfully] All that energy went straight for the black hole. Combine the excess energy, very strong gravity field, and giant metal pillar that's the exact composition of the whole universe, and you've got a fairly decent recipe for ominous storm clouds, at the very least.

[frowns] Something's coming, Oliver, and it's not just a storm.

[worriedly] And you think it's because of the forcefield we destroyed.
