[003].
[Jamie has settled under a tree in the forest, his satchel on his lap. Reaching inside, he pulls out a mass of cloth, carefully unwrapping it to reveal a brown egg with blue speckles - still intact. He looks at it, a vaguely disgruntled expression on his face.]
Och, aren't ye ever going to hatch?
[He's not gotten a lot of sleep the past couple of days, having just come off a rather harrowing mission with his Doctor. It involved nearly falling off a cliff - something actually stopped when the satchel had snagged on a tree limb. He's grateful that he still needed the satchel, but at the same time, he's very tired of hauling the bag around. There's a sigh, which turns into a bit of a yawn.]
Maybe I'll take a wee nap and see if I can find someone here after that who can help.
[Closing his eyes, he tucks a protective arm over the egg and drifts off into slumber. He's soon sound asleep, and completely misses the fact that the egg is beginning to twitch. Cracks appear in its shell, and a piece of it pops off rather suddenly, pushed free by the nose of its occupant, a cinnamon colored ferret.]
[The ferret wiggles its way free through the hole, looking around with bright, inquisitive eyes. Spotting the piece of shell it knocked free, it jumps on it and starts wrestling it into submission, like you do with those sorts of things. This fails to get Jamie's attention, as he is still out cold...and might need a wee bit of prompting before he'll notice.]

Aye, I think it might be. It's not been bothering ye, has it?

[He's never tried to call a ferret before, but he shifts into a crouch, holding out his hand close to the ground and making what he thinks is the appropriate noises. The ferret looks up and abandons its task in favor of bounding over and making a small, happy clucking noise. It nudges the rest of the shell, and then Jamie's hand.]
It seems to recognize me, right enough. Thank ye for waking me. I'd not realized the egg hatched. Hey...I don't think I've seen ye on the Plane before. I'm Jamie.

[And then she frowned.]
I may not be wise, but I know that animals like that one do not come out of eggs.
no subject
This is the first ferret I've seen, though.

Can you trust it, then? If it was a gift from these Twins?

[There's a faint 'dooking' noise from the ferret, who is VERY EXCITED to have someone to play with and is trying to initiate a chase game with the dragon. The noise catches Jamie's attention, and turns, blinking a bit as he tries to figure out what's going on.] Hey?
no subject
[OMG SOMEONE TO PLAY WITH YAAAY! The little dragon happily indulges the ferret in a game of chase]
no subject
[YAAAAY PLAYING! The ferret goes bounding across the floor of the forest and over these weird furrythings that are in its path. Jamie looks a bit bemused as the ferret runs right over his legs.]
It's an enthusiastic wee beastie, isn't it?
no subject
[The Dragon keeps making playful swipes and nips at the Ferret's tail because IT'S SO FLUFFYYYYYYYY]
no subject
Aye. [Jamie jerks a thumb at the ferret and comments in a rather dry tone.] If ye could bottle that stuff, ye could get rich. Hey, did ye think of a name for yours yet?
no subject
No, but my choices are narrowed, I think.
no subject
I'd not even thought of a name for a ferret. I was sure I was going to get a dog.

Hmmm. Is that his ferret? Looks like it's just hatched-- it ought to know who its mama is.
A deep breath.]

[Jamie, on the other hand, is rather less scared and more along the lines of simply being instantly awake. He pulls his dirk and starts looking around for the giant beastie that's terrorizing the area. Not seeing the ferret immediately, he turns towards Axel - dirk still at the ready.]
Where is it?
no subject
Really though, there's a giant rat. And it's hiding kinda behind you.
no subject
[Since there's no immediate threat, he'll put the dirk away. He knows enough to leave the ferret alone for a moment to let it calm down.]
Where did you get the idea that was a rat, anyway?
no subject
[Note to self: strange man with Scrooge's accent in a skirt is prank-proof.]
no subject
[Jamie obligingly follows the glance to the egg, and looks rather more pleased than he did a moment ago.] Hey! It hatched! I suppose I should thank ye, then.
[Even if he did scare the poor ferret. And he's not completely prank-proof - it's just the matter of finding the right one.]
no subject
[And now he looks pleased in return, though it's probably because he's thinking of when his own egg hatched.] If you want. You gonna name it?
no subject
[The ferret seems to have calmed down now, and Jamie goes to let it investigate his fingers.] I've not really thought about what to call a ferret, but I suppose I should come up with something. Did ye get an egg as well?
