[Damon is on the Plane again, looking a little disheveled. That, combined with a fading bruise or two, might indicate to those in the know that he's just been harassed by certain members of the Chancellery Guard. He doesn't seem terribly bothered by it though. Actually, he appears to be working -- but he isn't. Instead, he's creating a few very tiny security cameras for his own purposes.]

I suppose this is what I get for working up the nerve to confront the Castellan. [sighs] At least I can have a few moments of peace here...perhaps I'll have a few more in the Citadel once I'm finished with these.

[his next words are rather bitter] Let's see how you enjoy being watched constantly, Commander Maxil.

He is, yes. [hesitantly] He said something about taking them up under Article 93 Oblique 11 as undue force, and invoking Clause 2 the next time it happens to guarantee a civil trial...but I'm not certain I want to take that sort of action yet, Doctor. What do you think I should do?

[frowns, thoughtful]

Well. I'd prefer you putting a stop to it as soon as possible - I don't want to see you battered, frankly - but caution might do you more good in the long run.

[nods] I prefer the cautious route myself. Do you have any suggestions, aside from keeping an eye on them? [gestures at his cameras]

Hmm. You could try baiting them, I suppose - suddenly, mind you. [just as disdainful as he is upset] If Maxil is moved to violence already...

[frowns] What do you mean, Doctor?

The more incidents that occur, the stronger your case will be - and anger can loosen many a person's tongue. If he doesn't reveal anything in your presence, he might rant in his own quarters.

I'm not sure if spying on Commander Maxil's quarters would be the best idea...if he discovers me, that would simply prove his point. But perhaps I could attempt to provoke him... [Damon trails off, contemplating the possibilities]

It's quite a risk, yes. [shakes his head] I do wish I could help more directly.

[smiles] You're helping just by being here, Doctor.

[soft smile in return] I'm glad to here it, but I'd still prefer to do more.

....Has anyone mentioned reality merging?

[nods] It was in Braxiatel's brochure, I think -- something about a strong emotional connection.

[grin] Good, then. Yes, the longer you spend with someone, the closer your worlds seem to shift, until they're connected.

It's not that I don't like the idea of spending more time with you, Doctor, but isn't merging realities together a bit dangerous? Won't people...notice something's wrong?

They never seem to realise something is amiss when the Machine interferes - it's as though there's a perception filter surrounding the changes. They won't notice, or they'll think things are as they've always been.

That's convenient. And...I'd like being able to see you more often. The you in my universe left so quickly last time, I barely got to say goodbye.

[sympathetically] Not that I blame him, of course, considering the circumstances.

[hard, wry smile] I never can visit Gallifrey under pleasant ones.

[he reaches out, squeezing the Doctor's hand in an attempt at comfort] I'm sorry, Doctor. I wish it didn't have to happen that way.

[his eyes widen, but then his smile warms] Thank you, Damon. ...I don't regret it.

It's understandable. [wistfully] I'll admit, I often wonder what it would be like myself. Travelling the universe, that is.

[after a moment, softly] You oughtn't just wonder, Damon. I waited...far too long.

But how? You know how strict the regulations are on time travel, and I doubt I could steal a TARDIS like you did. Besides...I'm not sure I want to leave if I can't return.

...I don't suppose I left you any means to contact me, in your universe?

[shakes his head] No, unfortunately. You probably didn't want to take the risk.

[sighs] Typical. Well. If you don't mine our realities merging...

Why would I? You're my friend, Doctor, no matter which reality you come from, or what incarnation you are.
