[someone new appears on the Plane; she's sitting in a manual wheelchair, wearing a sleek black headset, and balanced on her lap are two thin silver rods

for a moment, she looks stunned, but then her expression closes, and when she speaks, her voice is cool and calm]

Azrael? Azrael, do you read me? ...No, I thought not. [she pulls the receiver down so that it hangs round her neck, and begins to move, cautious and alert; her chair rolls silently across the stars, and her gaze moves with sharp precision

she's memorising every inch of it]

Well, uh...this is the Astral Plane, where lots of people from all sorts of different worlds and universes end up--probably because of Meredith. There are all sorts of places here, including a kitchen and bar that never run out. Oh, and you can go home anytime! You just have to think about it, and the same goes for coming back here.

A neverending bar. Well, they definitely know how to appease people.

That's all, huh? [tries this! disappears, then reappears, looking keenly interested] I always did want to teleport. It would make thing so much easier. [especially nowadays, are the words unsaid]

[laughs] You've got that right!

Well, supposedly you can appear anywhere you want on the Plane, but I haven't actually worked out how to do that yet.

Oh, but! Even better than that. Time doesn't pass at home while you're here. How cool is that?

[thoughtfully] I'd think it had to do with focusing - on which part you want to be, specifically. It would probably help to have a clear picture in your head.

[and her eyes widen] Oh, that'll come in very handy.

[surprised] You know, I bet you're right. I should give that a go...

[grins] Yeah, definitely one of the benefits of this place.

[wide gesture at the Plane

which is also a gesture of trust, as she's leaving only one hand near the sticks] You have all the time in the world.

[then she gets a mischevious smile, and

disappears, reappearing on the constellation behind him]

Hey, wai-- [trails off, frowning at her sudden disappearance] Ah well. [watches, waiting for her to come back. he does not see you there!]

[waits for a moment, entirely too amused

she hasn't had a chance to be playful in ages, and there's something freeing about this place, separate from the world]

Boo.

[JUMPS LIKE A FOOT, whirling around] Whoa! When'd you get over there?

[grin] A few seconds ago. [points down] Apparently it works very well if you remember the exact formation of the stars.

Oh. Wow. Hey, that's cool! [makes a face] Too bad they don't stay like that...

[raises eyebrows] Don't they? Well, that's irritating. It'll definitely make mapping trickier.

Well, I've never tried mapping. They definitely don't stay in the same place, but maybe they repeat at some point.

[thoughtful nod] I'll need to keep an eye on them. Maybe I can invent a symbol for "this bit of scenery is on a loop".

[shakes his head--he'd never have the patience or the memory to try to work that out, and he's impressed that she does] Yeah. But you know, I bet you're onto something. Maybe deciding where you appear on the Plane has to do with picturing the exact details of the place. The buildings don't move, so you could definitely use that idea with them!

[nods] And if you don't have a photographic memory, actual photographs ought to help. ...If you can take them here, anyway.

How did the buildings get here? Doesn't strike me as a natural part of the environment, such as it is.

I bet you can! [pulls out his datapad, fiddling with the settings, before he holds it up with the shiny black back facing Barbara] Smile! [the picture requires no flash, but she can probably guess he took it as he lowers the datapad]

Oh, that's a good question. I dunno about all of them, but I've heard people've brought some of them here.

[her eyes widen, and then she's grinning] I hope you got my good side.

...We can bring architecture along with us. Well, that's - it's going to take a long time to figure out how this place works.

Wanna to find out? [offers her the datapad, which is rather similar in its general appearance to an iPod Touch]

[laughs] I know! I've never brought anything big myself, but you can definitely bring stuff with you that you're holding. Well. I guess you probably knew that already. [gestures at the work she was doing]

[accepts it almost gleefully] How does it work? [yeah she is already pressing buttons]

[then glances up, with a wry smile] I'd be in trouble if we couldn't.

You just touch the... [trails off, seeing her pressing things,and shakes his head with a smile] Yeah, it's probably not up anymore. [moves over to her, touching the screen to bring up the menu options] See, that's the camera. [presses the option he indicated. the first photo that appears is of a blond girl, smiling for the camera with one hand raised in a wave. he quickly presses to scroll to the end, and the photo of Barbara comes up] There you are!

[downright gleeful grin; she's been entirely too low-tech for months now

she gives him an impish look when she sees the picture, but doesn't press] Not bad.

[grins] Glad you think so. And the photo came out, so that's a good sign!

[laughs] No worries there! We haven't got it. Not in the sense that you do, anyway.
