[Sitting on the plane is what appears to be a very large animal, something similar to a wolf, but not quite - after all, wolves don't have golden fur in the shape of an ankh (and on the chest, for those wondering), nor do they have large Anubis-like ears. That's just silly. Its fur, other than the gold, is mostly brown, black on the back, with white ears, and a grime-y sort of green belly. A single silver triangle is under each eye.

Spread out in front of it are 78 face down cards, and next to it is a sign that simply reads 'CHOOSE A CARD'.]

No, I don't think so. Our kind - those naturally born - have very short childhoods as is. I don't think I missed much.

So long as you feel you've lived a fulfilling life, I guess it isn't that important how much of any particular stage you go through.
