[on the first floor, Remus has finally decided to avail himself of the outdoor baths; he's been experimenting with his ring quite a bit, so that may contribute to his current relaxation

he's wearing nothing but swim shorts, and his pale skin is strewn with scars, some fairly recent, some over a decade old; most appear to be claw and bite marks

his eyes are closed as he leans back, all but his head submerged in the water]

I'll be back in a mo' then, yeah? [he winks, climbing out of the tub and heading back to the room, returning with far less clothing on. and swimwear, this time! He slips back in the pool with much less splashing]

Hello again. [shifts a little to give him more room] That's why I haven't flown much.

[chuckles, sprawling out a bit and relaxing in the water, looking rather content] It's fantastic, once you get the hang of it. ...'Course, getting the hang of it is a bit tricky. Obviously. [he eyes Remus's scars for a moment, concerned] Old wounds?

I think it would be easier if we knew how it worked... [there's a bit of frustration there, mixed in with the fascination and enthusiasm; then he's nodding, not quite meeting the Doctor's eyes] Most of them.

I'm assuming it's connected to whatever emotion our ring's focused on, somehow...still not sure what my colour represents, though. [he frowns, noticing that] Most of them? What happened? If you don't mind me asking.

We could guess by what we have in common... [meets his gaze, looking thoughtful] I usually do, though it's different here.

[nods] Sounds like a decent plan. [smiles gently, shrugging a bit] Know what you mean. Promise I won't tell a soul, but it's up to you, really.

[slow nod, gaze never leaving the Doctor's] I believe you.

[his voice lowers, then, automatically] I was bitten by a werewolf when I was five years old.

[he stares, both in surprise and concern] They haven't developed any sort of cure, have they? Or at least, anything to make the transformations easier?

[he's started at first, eyes widening and words dying on his open lips, but then he shakes his head] No. Most...don't bother to look.

[frowns] That's not right. I'll see if I can come up with something myself - might not be able to manage a proper cure, but I can try to help, at least. Got bitten by a Werelok once, and I managed to find a cure for that. Werewolves aren't that different.

[...give Remus a moment, he's absolutely floored] Well, they're...different worlds, it might not be - what's a Werelok?

[have a fond smile, Remus] Sort of a wolf-like humanoid. They've got venom in their fangs that transforms those they bite into Wereloks under certain types of intense light - like moonlight.

...That's different. [he's still a bit stunned, here]

It's - the wolf's saliva, in my world, that infects you.

[nods] Thought so. I've met actual werewolves too, y'know. [his smile turns a bit wistful] 'Course, they didn't have a cure, either, and I'm not sure if they've ever developed one. Haven't actually been back to visit.

...What were they like?

[he debates how to answer that for a long moment] They were massive, ruthless wolves. The oldest could swallow you whole if he wanted to. [pauses] Humans were nothing more than cattle to most of them. But er, some of them were decent people. [he looks rather awkward and embarrassed now] Wound up engaged to one of them, actually.

...Engaged. ...Really? [surprised, awed, a bit amused – and perhaps a tiny bit hopeful]

[sheepishly] Er. Yes. Didn't realise what I was doing at the time - just wanted to defend her and her people. But then it turned out I'd be her champion and her husband if I managed it. 'Course, eventually I ended up...well. Didn't work out, though. Her kind were tied to the earth, and I can't leave the stars.

[slow nod] A number of legends tie us to the Earth that way.

...I'm sorry.

[awkward shrug is awkward] It's alright. Happened a long time ago, anyway. Centuries, really...back in my Fifth regeneration.

...You've had to leave a lot of people, haven't you? [...pause] Er. Sorry. That was - invasive.

[shakes his head and smiles, though it's rather pained] Generally it's the other way around, actually. Companions never stay forever. Don't blame them for it, though.

[softly] Nothing lasts forever.
