Star 018

[Please excuse Isaac while he drops a few bodies into The Hole.

MMkay?

Alright then.

Turning away, it's evident that there's something 'off' about Isaac. He seems....not drunk persay, but definitely slightly 'out of it.' It seems to wear off after some time on the plane though, especially as he wanders over towards the kitchen for something to eat.]

Could you tell me about the bits you do know?

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-25 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
[Martha STARES]

That was incredible.

[it doesn't matter how many times they show her awesome magic tricks on the Plane, she'll still be wow'd by it EVERY TIME!]

But you can do that with other--things, then? With 'focus items' or 'Djinn' - like, genies?

[Martha's face reads like today has unexpectedly become a holiday and a birthday]

That's so amazing! And ... completely impossible, but oh my God! [she steps forward to touch the earth and the rain] Oh my God! That's brilliant!

[As Martha considers, she is missing out on Isaac's red face] They're alive, right? I've never been able to bring anything that's alive here.

[incredulous] But you use them for ma--with Psyenergy.

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
And you're not sure if they're alive.

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds pretty much like life to me. I don't think you're talking AI here, anyway.

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Artificial Intelligence. Like, a robot that can think and feel like a human can.

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 09:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...you have no idea what a robot is, do you?

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you have ... metal in your world. Right? So, imagine a person made out of metal. No real brain, not like ours, no blood, no skin, nothing like that. It's an entirely synthetic thing. And then what it has instead of our brains is a program. If you know what that is.

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Really! I've seen a lot since I started travelling. And basically, a program is a set of instructions for the robot to process. But it's so advanced that it's about as complicated as our own minds.

[identity profile] taughtmedicine.livejournal.com 2009-06-26 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really incredible. So, basically, walking, talking people made entirely of metal and computer chips. Well not computer chips any more, the Doctor says that silicon hit the end of its functionality long before really advanced robots came along, but that's more or less it. And then you start getting the post-humanism stuff, like humans who are part robot, or animal, or whatever, or humans who've had kids with other alien species and things. That's what it gets really weird. [stops] I wonder how the doctors handle the variety.

[it's okay, Martha's a bit of a kid at heart]

It is. I love every minute of it. ...Most minutes of it. Some of them are pretty scary. But when it's amazing, it really is amazing. Just... none of the magic your world seems to have.
