[so Martha's imaginary birthday was yesterday! by which I mean the one that I completely made up, but still, I totally forgot about it. let's just say she went back to London and had drinks with her mum and Tish or something, IDK. THAT IS PROBABLY IRRELEVANT.

Except that it means that Martha is in a good mood here on the Plane! So not completely irrelevant, I suppose. She's brought one of her leather armchairs to the Plane and is sitting cross-legged in it, cradling a guitar in her lap. She fiddles with the tuning knobs for a few moments before strumming some chords. One chord progression leads into something that sounds rather song-like, but it's a song that nobody on the Plane is likely to recognise. She pulls a bit of a face once she realises what she's playing. She closes her eyes for a moment, pulling her hands away from the strings.

When she goes back to playing, it's a tune that might be a bit more familiar - "Hallelujah", that old Leonard Cohen/Rufus Wainwright/everybody else EVER standard, because the mun is uncreative. And, yes, she's singing along quietly - though she's a little self-conscious about her singing voice. BUT FEEL FREE TO PESTER HER.]

It's...not something I do too often, these days. Though there's something different about it, something I can't quite put my finger on.

[Martha is flustered!] Ah, thank you. I usually only sing to myself in the shower.

[her expression suddenly turns grim] I spent a year singing to survive. [weeell, not really, but we can exaggerate a bit] That's why I don't do it much anymore.

I had a couple of 'em. [shrug] Never anything terribly serious. I didn't have time for much. [wry smile] You know how teenagers are - "studying anatomy" and all that.
