I didn't even know you were there. Or what your regeneration looked like. They kept me busy enough.

You never thought to even ask Romana. They brought back everyone they could get their hands on, but you never thought to ask.

You expected me to think the Council would bring you back? I didn't think they'd get so desperate as to revive people in the first place. And you never said 'hi' to me during the Time War, as far as I know.

...Where were you for most of it?

Building Paradox machines in the Citadol. Some strategic work with the war councils, some tactical work over battlefield fleets. All of that under the careful watch of those who did not trust me to keep my promise.

[smiles wryly] When they began to be more liberal with regenerations, I was permitted my fair share of berserker missions. Destruction may not be my primary goal, but I am very talented in it. Daleks scream in such curious ways, you know. You may have wreaked a godly terror, but my cruelty had its own reputation. And the Time Lords loved what fear I could bring, for all their ethics and morality.

I hate how they scream. [makes a face and rubs his ear like he still hears it] Anyway, were you at Nalori when it fell? It looked like a berserker went through it, 's why I ask.

No; were you there? I have a suspicion that our good President tried to keep me away from you.

[nods] Just towards the end of it. [snorts] I usually was sent in at the end to somehow fix whatever had gone wrong. That's a bit silly, though. Not that we get along exactly but we've proven we can combine efforts when we want to.

[his eyes flicker away; he closes off] Look at us, discussing a war that never happened. There are better ways to occupy our time.

[looks at him for a moment, then shrugs lightly, easing any tension] Like what exactly? Chess?

[frowns] We could play chess. Unless you've got a better idea.
