{Dero was nice enough to motivate me to make a posting schedule, so here's Diva! She's still in Haydée's body, so as soon as she came here, the uniform she had been wearing was gone. But still, she's sitting behind a desk with neat piles of paperwork, all in German. There's a bulky typewriter that takes up most of the desk, and a small desk radio that sounds like a German radio program, though Diva had turned it down quite a while ago.

She also looks surprisingly tired. She leans back in the wooden chair, putting her palms lightly over her eyes.}

Ne, it's really stupid. I really shouldn't care, shouldn't--

{But something said on the radio catches her attention, so she lifts her palms to look at the radio}

My, isn't that something? President Roosevelt traveled by aeroplane last week. I'm sure he was going to meet Mr. Churchill, actually. I wonder if Amshel or Solomon will be there too, actually~ It was winter when they met them, if I remember correctly...

[he frowns] I meant it. I don't... know. I suppose I'm relying on you to choose what makes you happiest.

[madamemoiselle]

Well, I've never been good at that is the problem. I was very happy with Josef, but we see how that turned out. He promised me my happiness, everything that I'd ever wanted, but he was using me all along. The happiness that I felt then was real, and it's real now, but he was lying all along.

{Stands} It hurt me, you know?

[didorothy]

[for just a moment, he shuts his eyes] I know.

[then he opens them up again]

[madamemoiselle]

{Watches quietly, but then she looks down, suddenly sounding very small}

But you won't hurt me, will you, Sam?

[didorothy]

[Vehemently, because she surprised the answer out of him]

No, of course not.

[madamemoiselle]

{She looks back up to him, smiling again}

Then I can live. Don't worry! I'll be fine.

[didorothy]

[slightly amused]

Why do people even bother saying 'don't worry' to me?

[madamemoiselle]

Reassurance to us, maybe?

[didorothy]

Then I suppose I can't say it doesn't help anyone.

[madamemoiselle]

But in any case, you don't need to worry, I promise! I wouldn't have loved Josef so much if he had hurt me before that time, so I'm probably safer there than...well, anywhere else but the Plane. I mean really, if I'm right about how this experiment is, then I'll end up in Vietnam!

[didorothy]

[even more worried now]

You nearly got killed in Vietnam. You said you were afraid for your life.

[madamemoiselle]

That's when they woke Saya up too early. She came after me, like I came to the Plane that one time. She killed lots and lots of people. Anyone in her way. I'd never seen Saya so scary before.

And besides that, there was napalm, but they always took care to keep me away from the fighting when they thought there would be napalm.

[didorothy]

Then be careful. Very careful.

[madamemoiselle]

With any luck, I'll just be in that village. That was, relatively, the most peaceful time. I still had to do and saw things that would upset Sam, but I was safe there, if anywhere. After all, I was their Goddess. They wouldn't think to hurt me.

[didorothy]

'Do things'?

[you distracted him with morals]

[madamemoiselle]

Karl and I both.

{Sounding almost nostalgic,} When the invading militaries, that's what we called them, got too close to our village, we destroyed them. They weren't to come close to the village, since Amshel didn't want any stress on the villagers in case it made the medicine work too soon, or whatever. Most of the time we just killed them all, but if I were hungry, or it was boring, I would take one or two back. If I was hungry, I'd eat them for the village to see, and if I was bored...

{Thoughtfully, as she tries to translate the word from Vietnamese} Ah...What is it...I know there's an English word for it. When you keep a group of people as slaves, almost, as lovers? It was that. They didn't complain, of course. Those soldiers even stayed in that village even once I let them leave. I only kept them because I wasn't allowed to have the villagers and Karl was too shy.

[didorothy]

[Sam doesn't actually have a response. He knows exactly how he feels about it - more worrying is how Diva seems to feel about it]

I believe it's called an 'harem.'

[madamemoiselle]

Ah, is that the word? Then I'll remember it. That was what Solomon suggested that I do when I was bored, and it turned out to be a good idea after all.

[didorothy]

[Sam shoves his hands into his pockets and looks at her, then at the floor]

You're looking forward to all that, then?

[madamemoiselle]

{Simply} Not really. But that time, I really felt...alive, I guess it is. Karl was so shy and soft-spoken that he never gave me any orders, and the only ones I got were through that radio for the few months I was there. I learned to really like humans, found out that, more than anything, I wanted my own children, and I met humans that knew what I was, and they loved me for that. I didn't really care about them, but it was really different.

{Shrugs} Everything else, that was just...normal things. Well, except the "harem". I had never heard of anything like that before.

[didorothy]

[He wants, very much, to give Diva choices. Deadpool is right; Diva needs to get her own moral compass. And he's trying, but he has given so much of himself to this that it's hard. It scares him. And he's afraid of losing his morals for a cause, the way '73 nearly dragged him down to the level of Ray, the way the Master nearly destroyed everything he'd fought for. Even so, it's a warzone. Even so, she didn't have to do that.

So when he speaks, he is quiet, trying so hard not to let his opinion slip into his voice]

And will you be killing this time, too?

[madamemoiselle]

{She's quiet in response for a moment, considering it. But she steps closer and takes both of his hands, smiling up at Sam}

Sam told me that "every life is important", and that's what I believe now. If I'm in danger, then I'll defend myself, but I made a promise to Sam.

[didorothy]

Do you want to keep that promise?

[madamemoiselle]

More than anything, Sam.

[didorothy]

[if his hands weren't in his pockets, he'd link them behind his back]

I just... I can't force morality on you, Diva. I don't want to, either.
