Apparently, sometime while I was sleeping, I got married to a really angry British woman and she calls me Gene, even though I told her I'm Fumie. And instead of going to school, I'm being called to 'bosh' things. And I don't even know what that means.

And this definitely isn't Daikoku. It's old. And British. And my glasses are glitching. I keep trying to go home but- [pops in and then out again] -...Damn it.

No, I won't. When I , uh, checked in, after what Mu said, I found out I'm in, uh, Japan, actually. 2009 according to the nearest calendar. I think they think I'm Minato.

[Sam's facial expression indicates that he's trying to accept all of this without questioning how mad it all is]

[somehow smiling at this] Ahh, you're Minato? That must be interesting! Japan is really nice. Hm, then I guess Mu and I are stuck in Manchester...

[rubs his head in his hands] And you're DCI Hunt.

[proudly] DCI Hashimoto! ...What's the DCI again?

...Detective Chief Inspector. You decide who goes on what case. You lead all murder investigations, make sure the team is functioning properly, have the executive decision on pretty much everything... [not going to tell her she also gets to decide who can carry guns when]

Murder investigations? [pauses, then nods] So basically, I'm completely in charge? [grinning slightly now]

... [must curb this line of thinking] Rathbone's the Super. He's your superior officer.

[totally not working Sam but she nods anyway] Right, got it. Don't worry! I can do this!

Not on your own. Listen, Fumie. Years of training go into becoming a DCI. It's not an easy job. Let me help you pull it off.

[frowns] You won't tell Gene you're helping me, right?

No, but.. why shouldn't I?

Because! Because I want to prove to him that I'm good, too! [not mentioning the bet, nope]

All right. Well, just... promise to come to be for help? If you're the least bit uncertain on something. Remember, Fumie, it's not just a game. CID is responsible for taking care of Manchester. The most important thing is making sure the city and the people in it are safe.

[nods] I understand. I'll protect people! I won't let anyone get hurt in your city, Boss! [salutes]

[smiles] Thank you.

But I'm serious, come to me. For everything. And... trust WPC Annie Cartwright to get you through this. Don't tell her what's going on, but she happens to be one of the best coppers in our department. She should be able to help you with how things are supposed to be done.

[hands on her hips] Annie, huh? ...Ah, do I call them by their first names? That's okay, right? English people use first names. I'm not calling her a bird, that's for sure. [stubborn, yes] I can do arrogant, though!

You call her ...[Flash Knickers, actually] 'Cartwright.' That should do. DS Ray Carling can be Ray, Raymundo, or just Carling. DC Chris Skelton is generally Chris. You can call the desk sargeant 'Phyllis.' I'm, uh, Sam, or Tyler, or Sammy-boy. Or any random girls' name. Everyone else, just go with their last name. Or, "Hey! You!" actually works pretty well, given that it's Gene.

All right. I can do that! I'll probably use 'Hey you' a lot though.

Might be for the best.

[nods and smiles] I will, Sam. You'll be careful, too, ne?

Good. ... [pauses, then takes his hand and squeezes it quickly before stepping back and smiling. She's trying to open up more]

[blinks, and then smiles and hugs her] Good.

[still a bit flustered but leans against him, which isn't bad progress!]
