053: To See a World in a Grain of Sand

[Hei appears on the Plane looking thoroughly bemused. His feet are bare and covered in sand and his pantlegs are rolled up, exposing his ankles. He looks around the Plane, frowning and rubbing the back of his head in confusion. Then he drops from the Plane.]

[He reappears only a few minutes later with a palm full of sand. He turns his hand over and lets it trickle out onto the Plane floor.]

Hafta admit, this is a new one.

Well...just hold on a second, okay? I'll go back and look.

[He disappears a moment and comes back with a tuna sandwich from the juice bar.]

I ate one first, so it seems safe, experiment or not. Here you go. [Offers it.]

[He takes it, and chews experimentally. He doesn't think much of the bread, so he paws it open and licks at the tuna.]

Picky dog, I guess. [Frowns a little, thinking of Mao.] Wait, no. You're a cat, aren't you?

[Smirks.] Plenty of fish in that ocean. Maybe I can catch you something.

[He finishes off the tuna, then sniffs at him hopefully.]

[Sniffs. Why aren't you feeding him, Hei?]

I got nothing, Ianto.

[He watches him for a minute longer, then shoves against his leg for petting instead.]

...Ianto, I really don't think you want me to pet you.

[Headbutts. Yes he does.]

[Sighs heavily and very tentatively starts patting his head again.]

[And the beginning of a purr is forming in his throat.]

[Oh my god. He keeps patting. Petting just seems too...weird.]

[The patting gets irritating pretty quickly, and Ianto mrrs uncomfortably, and shifts away from him.]

Ianto, I get the feeling that Jack would...object if he saw me actually petting you.

[He curls up awkwardly to lick at his belly.

That hasn't stopped anyone else, Hei.]

[Fortunately Hei is intelligent and doesn't want Jack to kill him. Or Ianto to kill him when this is over. Sorry, Ianto, no pets.]
