[Martha is cooking! Unfortunately, it's hard to tell what she's cooking, because whatever it was is now a blackened lump in the skillet, and there are flames leaping up. So she's not really cooking as much as she's trying to find a fire extinguisher or a towel, or possibly some water. Or, you know, something to put out the fire.

...which has now spread to the towel she just used to try to smother it, whoops. Fire control is not Martha's forte.]

[Fortunately for Martha, Ianto does know what he's doing.

He grabs the towel off her, dropping it into the sink and turning the tap onto full. He wets another towel, making sure the cooker is off whilst covering the flames with the wet towel.]

[Martha has the grace to stand back and look a little embarrassed while Ianto's being heroic. Hey, at least she isn't starting fires in the Hub!] Er, thanks.

[She's probably banned from the kitchen if that's how she acts. :|] Not a problem. Just try and remember that dry towels are usually flammable next time.

[She just has d1!Ianto get takeaway...>>] Well, they always say to smother fires with towels, yeah? Though I think a fire extinguisher would work better, personally.

[I think that's actually what happens in every deviance.] Wet towels. Dry ones will just make the situation worse.

Right, right. I...probably should have figured that. [cough] See, this is why I don't usually cook.

Well, I had some leftover rice from Chinese last night, so I thought I'd try my hand at making some fried rice. It...didn't really turn out very well, though.

[Bai just looks amused for a few seconds and then finally edges over and puts her hand over the fire... And we're really hoping you didn't still want to eat that food Martha because now it's soggy and burnt]

[Fortunately Hei knows where the fire extinguisher is. Kitchen safety! He grabs it out from a cupboard and sprays until the fire has gone out.]

[Faint smile.] It's best to wet the towel first. Baking soda does the trick, too.

[Martha's been on the Plane long enough that such displays only merit a raised eyebrow from her now] Well, that's one way of putting out a fire. [rueful chuckle] Thanks.

[asdfkj she's embarrassed now] Thanks, Hei. I don't think anybody would be too fond of me if I burnt the kitchen down - though I suppose it's my fault for not paying attention to my cooking, 'specially when I'm trying something new.

[Admiring her handywork with a proud smirk] The best way [Glances briefly at Martha] ...You're welcome.

It's fine. Anyway, even if this place did burn down it would probably be back to normal the next day. And trust me, everyone sets the kitchen on fire at some point in their lives.

[...that looks nothing like rice, Martha.] I think you should probably stick to microwaving it next time. And refrain from making chips.

[Cy will run around her feet being TOTALLY USELESS in terms of extinguishing anything.]

If you don't know how to cook, just stay out of the kitchen.

[he smiles at the sight of her, but it quickly fades in favour of concerned alarm as he rushes forward] Extinguisher?

[well, it's not meant to be black and soggy!] Chips are tricky, yeah. I can sort of make them in the oven, but they aren't as good. Too healthy. [chuckle]

Assuming you can do it, of course. Wouldn't have had that problem in the first place if I could.

[she gives him a bit of a wry smile, running a hand through her hair] Loads better, now that the Twins have decided to stop fucking around with me. What about you? How are your wounds?

[oh, look, it's that fire extinguisher! Martha puts the fire out, watching it for a moment to make sure it's not going to flare up again, then sits down next to Cy] Well, that was a bit of a failure, yeah? [she produces chopped chicken from somewhere - presumably it was going to go in the food] Want some chicken?

[Martha does not like to admit to cooking incompetence D:] I can cook! I just...run into problems when I'm trying new recipes sometimes.

Too dry too.
