[Suffering severe trauma leads to taking an holiday. Taking an holiday leads to intense boredom. And intense boredom leads to ~~the Dark Side~~ Sam Tyler in a waist apron]

Fumie, we're having pasta alla carbonara tonight.

And, uh, if anyone else is hungry... I have a lot of spare time right now. [muttered] Can't believe the satellite and the internet went out at the same time...

[loooooooong pause] I've killed plenty of blokes in my day, Tyler. Scum who're better off under the streets than on 'em. It was my job, and I was good at it. But I can't bloody well do my job when the bloke I'm holding a gun at looks like you, now can I?

[sets his glass down and stands, walking up behind Gene and stopping just a bit to his right, just a bit behind him, the proper place for a deputy to stand. He's not entirely sure what to say, so he takes a step forwards, shoulder barely brushing against Gene's]

[doesn't move when he senses Sam approach, eyes on the window, glass in hand, but eventually finishes off his whisky, grunting quietly] You still being a nancy poofter about the whole thing?

[lets out a soft, short laugh] I'm wearing an apron and making chicken tandoori. Take a guess.

Speaking of, your chicken is getting cold.

[smirks] Good point. [goes back to his food and sits down, taking a bite. and gives Sam a nod to let him know, hey, it's good] It easier for you away from the office?

[takes his seat across from Gene, considering the question as he spins the glass in his hands]

It's not easy, not being there. But I was pushing myself too hard by trying.

And you think being here is gonna help? Think me bein' here is helping? I can't have CID stay like this forever, Tyler, and I need to know when you're coming back.

[looks up at him, his expression hard, and as he lets go of the glass his hand slams on the table]

[gives him a hard look right back, then runs a hand through his hair] Look. Maybe this was a bad idea.

Don't be stupid. Alcohol and bickering? We're making progress! Status quo ante, here we come.

And how am I supposed to know you aren't just lying to cover your own arse, same as you were when you were pushing yourself too hard?

Trust me, Guv. I've learned my lesson about that. If it's too much, I'll let you know.

[pours some more whisky and then slams it down, then looks over at Gene]

Hey, want to go out somewhere tonight?

You better. [watches him, taking a drink himself, then quirks a brow] Are you asking me out on a date, Gladys?

[snorts] I like my jaw where it is, thank you very much.

[can't help it and laughs, too] Pub okay, or you lookin' for a change in scenery?

Actually, I would like something new. Don't suppose we have any good clubs not run by crime lords?

None that I've been to. [finishes his whisky and slams it down on the table good-naturedly, clapping his hands as he's wont to do] First time for everything, right?

I'm starting to believe that there might well be. [stands and starts putting everything away, humming "I Want To Hold Your Hand," as the Doctor got it stuck in his head]

[hums along a few bars then makes a face] You ass, now it's stuck in my head.

What would you prefer, "Lovely Rita"? "Blackbird"? "Venus and Mars"?

The hell's that last one supposed to be?

's a Wings song. You know, "Venus and Mars are all right tonight"?

[he's gone back to thinking you're insane, Sam]

... It's a song!

[grabs his glasses, slipping them on, and does a search for the song. Downloads it, then tugs the glasses off, sets them on the table, and presses play so Gene can hear]

[now he knows you're daft, Sam, but listens anyway (cause he can't, well...not, and shakes his head] Never heard that song in my life, Tyler. Think your holiday's gone to your head.
