Scroll Two

[Ahhh, the beach~ Katara is there. Yay beach!

She's fresh off another infuriating conversation with Zuko, though thankfully (for him) it didn't last long enough for her to really lose her temper. Now she is attempting to refocus and train in the weird environment that is the Plane with all its weird moons.

She stands close enough that the water laps against her bare feet. Deep breath; hands out, palm down over the water. She snaps around in a low circle, bringing her body and hands surging upwards as she faces the water again.

A thirty-foot wall of ice rockets up, crackling into life for as far as the water stretches and leaving the water level substantially lower on either side.]

Not...not really bend. It's not the same as what you do.

He could only use water. He couldn't change it into other things, like ice or steam.

Though I did know someone else who could only use ice.

That's so limiting.

I suppose it is. But abilities there are very specific.

Do you have one?

[Looooong pause.] I do.

Does it matter?

[Frownyface] It does now.

[Sighs.] I can manipulate electricity.

So can Iroh. Doesn't make you a bad person. Iroh saved our lives in Ba Sing Se.

I'm used to people thinking a certain way when they find out.

Makes sense. It's not the friendliest aspect of an element.

No, it's certainly not. Though that's...not really what I meant.

[This is her ? face]

[Rubs the back of his head.] I just mean...the people in my world who have abilities, they're not well-liked--and for good reason. Those people--Contractors--they're very logical people, and they don't feel guilty about doing terrible things. Most of the time they're used as spies and assassins.

If they had a choice, would they do those things?

[Thinks about it.] That would depend on the individual, I think.

Okay. How about you?

[Silent for awhile.] I...don't really know. It's only recently that I've been allowed a choice.

....really? [Her hands twist into fists.]

My world is complicated. [Pauses, then chuckles.] Though I suppose everyone's is.

Yeah. [Sigh] It's... hard, coming here and finding out that even if we save our world, there are a dozen others out there that are messed up too.

It's best to just focus on your own world. If you worry about other worlds and try to save them all, you'll probably go insane.
