[ She has her hands out in front of her, cupped, and her eyes are closed. She's concentrating very deeply, if the way her brow is knitting is any indication. Eventually she opens her eyes, and stares, disbelieving, at her empty hands. She then starts pacing, kneading her hands and looking worried. ]

I know, I just-- Being like this brings back bad memories. [ She frowns and tucks a lock of hair behind her ear. ] And my magic's pretty much the only way I can defend myself.

What do you mean? Has this happened before?

Up until about a year ago, I couldn't use magic at all. And being the heir to a magic kingdom... Well, you can probably imagine how people felt about me.

...Wow. I didn't know. You mean...you learned all that in a year?

[ Little smile ] I did. My friends and I located all the elemental spirits, and they gave me their power. I guess I cheated a bit, in that regard.

But you still learned all that magic in a year. That's really impressive.

[Chuckles.] You're very hard working. I'm sure you'll figure out a way through this mess.

Yeah. It's just kind of... scary, I guess.

I understand. I don't know what I'd do if I suddenly lost my contract. I've come to rely on it too much.

Magic is pretty much it for me. I can hit things, but I'm pretty useless unless I can use spells, too. Especially if there's no one around to protect me.
