[ She has her hands out in front of her, cupped, and her eyes are closed. She's concentrating very deeply, if the way her brow is knitting is any indication. Eventually she opens her eyes, and stares, disbelieving, at her empty hands. She then starts pacing, kneading her hands and looking worried. ]

The Twins? Seriously? They can.. do stuff like that?

They can. They've done worse to others, made them invisible to important people, made them think they were other people. Most the time they experiment on us one at a time, but now and then everyone gets put through it at once. They messed with me before, made me think a friend and my mother were old enemies of mine. Eventually I was hallucinating here, too.

That... That's just great. [Pauses, then asks;] But it's all undone after a while?

Nothing's lasted, so far. But it can have some lasting affects, depending on what they do. If people find out I can't use magic again...

I'm the heir to the throne to a kingdom known for its magic. On top of that, once I'm queen, I'll be in charge of the Flame that keeps my kingdom warm in the middle of a snowfield.

[... well. He quirks a brow.] Is there any way you can hide it?

I might be able to get out of my lectures for a bit if I fake being sick. [ She sighs. ] It's just... it's the only means I have to defend myself. Losing it is a little scary.

You don't have any guards?

I do, but I'm pretty used to taking care of myself. That, and there's here to worry about.

It's not always this peaceful here. There've been... incidents. [ She frowns. ] The Twins have made people switch places with others. If I get stuck in a dangerous world with no magic to defend myself...

Switch places? You think they'd do that while they're still doing this?

I don't know. But I wouldn't go as far as to say that it's impossible.
